Gordon Oliver Coonrod, age 77, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at Pink Bud Nursing Center in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was born on May 29, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Oliver Gordon Coonrod and Margaret Elizabeth (Hollis) Boelleni.
A proud graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1966, Gordon soon answered the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and bravely served during the Vietnam War. Gordon was a purple heart recipient. After three years of honorable service as a Rifleman, he was discharged, leaving behind a record of dedication, bravery, and patriotism.
On February 23, 1984, Gordon married Nedra Marie (Stahle) Coonrod, in what he fondly referred to as “out in the Boondocks.” The couple shared 42 wonderful years together, including 41 years of marriage. Every anniversary, Gordon delighted in surprising Nedra with gifts, a tradition he never missed.
Gordon worked at Whirlpool for 20 years and later served with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 16 years. Outside of work, he embraced the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He often advised friends to “save your sick days for deer season” and could frequently be found hunting at Fort Chaffee or fishing with his son at Lake Charleston. He also enjoyed the simple pleasure of sharing a beer at his favorite local spots—a daily ritual that brought him joy.
Known for his big heart and generosity, Gordon was a man who would truly give you the shirt off his back. His presence brought life, warmth, and laughter to everyone around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nedra Coonrod; his son, Chad Coonrod; his cherished grandchild, Brazyn; two sisters, Janice Grubb and Judi McFerran; and his siblings-in-law, Rick and Barbara Stahle, Kevin and Dawn Stahle, and Cheryl Keating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Coonrod and Margaret Boelleni, and his brother-in-law, Gary Keating.
