Bayelsa Queens will once again represent Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers after being placed in a challenging Group B.

The Nigerian Women’s Premier League champions will face Ghana’s Police Ladies, Togo’s ASKO, and Benin Republic’s Sam Nelly. The regional competition will take place in Ivory Coast from 9–24 August 2025.

The “Restoration Girls” are making history as the first Nigerian club to play in the WAFU B qualifiers twice. They first appeared in 2022, winning the title on their debut and going on to finish third at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.

Coached by Whyte Ogbonda, the Yenagoa-based side qualified for this year’s event after a perfect run in the 2024–25 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs, where they secured their sixth league title. They will be looking to reclaim the regional crown from Edo Queens, who are the current champions.

Edo Queens lifted the trophy in 2024 after beating Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC 3–0 in the final, also held in Ivory Coast.

In Group A, hosts ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast will compete alongside Niger’s AS Garde Nationale and Burkina Faso’s USFA. Only the top team in each group will advance to the final, with the winner earning West Africa’s single ticket to the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League main tournament.

Founded in 2000 by former Bayelsa State governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Bayelsa Queens have been pioneers in Nigerian women’s football. In 2007, they became the first female club in the country to hold a pre-season abroad. Their honours include six league titles, the Aiteo Cup, the Nigeria Women’s Super Cup, and the Sheroes Cup.

With their experience on the continental stage and a strong hunger to return, Bayelsa Queens will head into the qualifiers confident but aware of the high stakes.
