Nigeria’s D’Tigers have reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket after a dominant 87-66 win over defending champions Tunisia in Luanda.

NBA star Josh Okogie was the star of the game, scoring 31 points as Nigeria claimed their second straight victory in Group B. The D’Tigers led 48-33 at half-time, extended the lead to 68-47 by the third quarter, and stayed in control to win by 21 points.

The win means Nigeria are through to the last eight with one game left, having beaten Madagascar 77-59 in their opening match. Tunisia, who earlier lost 86-65 to Cameroon, are now close to being knocked out.

Okogie, 26, who recently joined NBA side Houston Rockets coached by former D’Tigers star Ime Udoka, was born in Lagos but moved to the United States at the age of three. He grew up in Snellville, Georgia, and began playing basketball at Shiloh High School before starring at Georgia Tech.

Nigeria will finish their group games against Cameroon, while Tunisia must beat Madagascar heavily to have any chance of staying in the competition.

D’Tigers, AfroBasket champions in 2015, have also won silver four times (1997, 1999, 2003, 2017) and bronze three times (1995, 2005, 2011), confirming their status as one of Africa’s basketball giants.
