It’s almost time to welcome Superman home – into your home, that is.
Indeed, the first film to take flight as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe (DCU) will be available to rent or buy from Friday, August 15. So, if you’re one of the few people who hasn’t seen it in all of its glory on the biggest screen possible, you won’t have to vacate your couch to finally see it.
“But when is Gunn’s Superman movie coming to HBO Max and/or other streaming platforms?”, I hear you cry. Below, I’ll offer my thoughts on when it’s likely to launch on some of the world’s best streaming services and back up my predictions using examples of when some of Warner Bros. Pictures’ other 2025 releases have been, well, released on HBO Max and its rivals.
What is the ‘at home digital’ release date for Superman?
As I stated above, you can rent or buy Superman from August 15 onwards. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed as much on social media on August 12.

As for which premium video on demand (PVOD) platforms you can view it on, Gunn hasn’t said. However, I imagine it’ll be available on all of the usual digital stores, including Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, Microsoft, Sky, and maybe even YouTube.
When can I watch Superman on HBO Max?
Superman doesn’t have an HBO Max release date yet. However, using some of Warner Bros’ other 2025 film releases, we can attempt to work out a potential date.
Take A Minecraft Movie, for example. One of the highest-grossing new movies of 2025 debuted in theaters on April 4 before coming to HBO Max on June 20. That means 77 days passed between Warner Bros’ movie adaptation of Minecraft landing in cinemas and joining its streamer’s back catalog.
Sinners, a supernatural horror period piece from Ryan Coogler, arrived in theaters globally on April 18. It earned a spot on our best HBO Max movies list when it landed on the streamer on July 4. Again, 77 days came and went between its big- and small-screen debuts.
If we use those films as a guide for Superman‘s eventual release on HBO Max, it shouldn’t launch on the service until September 26. That date would mark 77 days since the Man of Steel’s latest cinematic adventure flew into theaters on July 11, so it’s the best guess I can make at this time. Once an official launch date is confirmed, I’ll update this section.
Which streaming services might Superman launch on in nations where HBO Max isn’t available?
If you live somewhere that HBO Max isn’t available, fret not. Superman, aka the first DCU Chapter One movie, should come to other streaming platforms before 2025 ends as well.
Determining when it could, though, is a trickier proposition than trying to work out its HBO Max launch date, mainly because because Warner Bros’ comic book films have appeared on a whole host of platforms in recent times.
That said, there are some services that are more likely to offer Superman ‘for free’ – i.e. as long as you have a paid-for account, you can watch any film in a platform’s back catalog – than others. So, based on where other DC films are available now, or services they recently appeared on, those listed below are the most likely candidates for Superman‘s home release outside of regions where HBO Max is available.
Again, once I know more about when and where one of the most exciting DCU movies and shows will be available to watch at home, I’ll update this section.
- Australia – Binge or Stan
- Canada – Crave or Netflix
- India – Disney+ Hotstar, JioCinema, or Prime Video
- New Zealand – Neon
- UK – Sky/Now TV
