League One and League Two may have been the starter. The Championship perhaps even a second course. Now the main dish – the Premier League – is back.
This weekend will see all 92 teams in the top four leagues of English football in action once again with the new campaign well underway.
That means 92 teams will fight for honours – be that promotion, survival, European qualification or even titles. And it all starts here.
So strap in ready for the next nine months. Nine moths that will see fans catching trains, journeying over motorways and maybe even jetting all over England and Wales to watch their teams in action as they compete for glory.
An away trip can often be a venture into the unknown – the ticket price, the atmosphere, the view, even the closest station. But fear not – Daily Mail Sport has you covered.
Here, we rank the 91 away days in the top four divisions of English football – with Everton to come, as there hasn’t been an away day yet at Hill Dickinson Stadium – with a full breakdown of what to expect ahead of your journey to watch your team play.

Writer’s honest review: A soulless ground with a soulless away end that sees the birds flying lower than you, there’s little argument for this as the worst away end in the entire EFL. It has all the various kiosks you would want but fans are packed together high in the stadium to the point it feels like you’re watching a live version of Subbuteo. Noise struggles to carry. Nathan Salt

90. Pirelli Stadium, Burton Albion

Writer’s honest review: In all honestly, a forgettable stadium but the terrace can redeem it slightly – if your allocation is good enough to get it. If not, you’ll be to the side of the goal in one of the smallest grounds in the EFL. Lewis Browning

89. Highbury Stadium, Fleetwood Town
Division: League Two Opened: 1939 Capacity: 5,137 Away allocation: 800
Where they sit: Percy Ronson Terrace
Ticket price: £26
Atmosphere: 5/10

Writer’s honest review: It’s fundamentally a non-League ground, which is good if that’s your thing. But it takes ages to get there from pretty much anywhere, with the closest train station almost five miles away. Fans are friendly, but the atmosphere is flat and it’s a bit of a non-event overall. Maybe harshly placed, but easily forgettable. Lewis Browning

88. London Stadium, West Ham United
Division: Premier League Opened: 2012 Capacity: 68,013 Away allocation: 2,800
Where they sit: South West corner, Trevor Booking Stand

Writer’s honest review: Where do we start? The away end is cut into two, and the view from both is dreadful – particularly the top of the upper tier, which feels like miles from the pitch. There is not much in the way of pubs for away fans close by, so travelling supporters often opt to drink at the Wetherspoons next to Liverpool Street station before making the slog to Stratford, and it can take an age to get back to transport hubs post-match. Near the bottom of the table without a shadow of a doubt. Liam Morgan

87. Kassam Stadium, Oxford United
Division: Championship Opened: 2001 Capacity: 12,537 Away allocation: 1,500
Where they sit: Far end of the North Stand
Ticket price: £24

Closest station and distance: Radley, 2.5 miles
Car park and cost: On-site, free
Arrests in 2024-25: 18

Postcode: OX4 4XP
Writer’s honest review: It does always feel strange in the away end at Oxford because of the non-existent stand to the right. I have only had bad footballing experiences there – three defeats out of three, which may influence its ranking – but there is at least a good selection of pubs and easy parking. Lewis Browning

86. Molineux, Wolverhampton Wanderers
Division: Premier League Opened: 1889 Capacity: 31,750 Away allocation: 2,750
Where they sit: Steve Bull Stand
Ticket price: £30
Atmosphere: 6/10

Arrests in 2024-25: 26
Google reviews: 4.6/5
Postcode: WV1 4QR
Writer’s honest review: One of the worst away ends in the league. It stretches across an entire side of the stadium, meaning generating an atmosphere is difficult even for the louder fanbases. While there are good food and drink options inside and outside the stadium, and a dedicated away pub within a 15-minute walk, a trip to Molineux is not one to look forward to. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: An impressive structure, but unfortunately rarely full and its position next to the A12 means it is lacking character. Given its location, there are limited amenities nearby. Will Pickworth

84. Peninsula Stadium, Salford City
Division: League Two Opened: 1978 Capacity: 5,032 Away allocation: 1,100
Where they sit: Half of the East Stand

Writer’s honest review: One of the trickier grounds to get to when it comes to public transport and in terms of atmosphere as an overall day out it is lacking more often than not. Away fans get the entire East Terrace and you can make quite a racket in there given the design of the terrace. There does seem to have been a concerted effort on the food and drink front to be one of the league leaders. Nathan Salt

83. Memorial Stadium, Bristol Rovers
Division: League Two Opened: 1921 Capacity: 9,834 Away allocation: 1,100

Postcode: BS7 0BF
Writer’s honest review: One of the most unorthodox stadiums in the entire EFL and so from a nostalgia perspective it’s easy to see why it’s popular for visiting fans. But, in truth, the overall experience as an away fan is questionable, with an old-fashioned open terrace leaving you exposed to the elements and it can feel cramped when your side has sold the allocation. Food and drink facilities are nothing to write home about. Nathan Salt

82. Select Car Leasing Stadium, Reading
Division: League One Opened: 2008 Capacity: 24,376 Away allocation: 2,000
Where they sit: Half of the East Stand
Ticket price: £25

Writer’s honest review: An impressive arena, if lacking personality, the Select Car Leasing Stadium is another out-of-town stadium that isn’t the easiest to travel to. Attendances have been low and the atmosphere lacking in recent years, although that has mainly been due to protests against Dai Yongge’s ruinous ownership of the club, which has thankfully come to an end. Will Pickworth

81. Vale Park, Port Vale
Division: League One Opened: 1950 Capacity: 15,036 Away allocation: 3,363
Where they sit: Bycars End
Ticket price: £27
Atmosphere: 6/10

Car park and cost: Dimensions Leisure Centre, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 5
Google reviews: 4.2/5
Postcode: ST6 1AW
Writer’s honest review: Away fans at Vale Park get the Bycars End, which, oddly enough, was a home section until 2023. It’s a fairly basic stand with huge poles holding it up which could obstruct the view on a particularly packed day. All the local pubs in Burslem are only for home fans, but the Vale Social bar outside the away end can be accessed by the travelling contingent – for £2 per head. A decent ground with decent turnouts but won’t blow your socks off. Luke Power

Writer’s honest review: Part of the stand is covered, with the ground old-fashioned and small. They are making an effort to rebuilt the ground but, again, it’s very far from anywhere and mostly quiet. Still, not far from the station and cheap parking. Lewis Browning

79. Carrow Road, Norwich City

Fans of Dutch side NAC Breda had a whale of a time at Carrow Road earlier this month for a pre-season friendly
78. MEMS Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham
Division: League Two Opened: 1893 Capacity: 11,582 Away allocation: 2,000
Where they sit: Either at the end of the Gordon Road Stand or in the lower tier of the Brian Moore Stand
Ticket price: £25
Atmosphere: 5/10
Closest station and distance: Gillingham, 0.4 miles
Car park and cost: Woodlands Primary School, £5
Arrests in 2024-25: 7
Google reviews: 4.5
Postcode: ME7 4DD
Writer’s honest review: Gillingham isn’t the nicest area but this old-school ground has been the club’s home since its incarnation in the 19th century. Food options are solid, with the club owners looking to improve experience with a fan area too. If it rains, expect to have an unpleasant experience due to the lack of roof on the infamous scaffolding away end if that’s where you are sat. But you may get some complimentary rain macs for your troubles. Overall, it’s a good ground for Gillingham’s level – but the experience is probably nicer for home fans than away. Lewis Browning

77. Racecourse Ground, Wrexham
Division: Championship Opened: 1801 Capacity: 10,500 Away allocation: 1,500
Where they sit: Left side of the Wrexham Lager Stand
Ticket price: £26
Atmosphere: 6/10
Closest station and distance: Wrexham General, 0.1 miles
Car park and cost: Wrexham University car park, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 7
Google reviews: 4.6/5
Postcode: LL11 2AH
Writer’s honest review: Anyone hoping to arrive in Wrexham expecting the glitz and glamour presented by their Hollywood owners will unfortunately be let down. Parking is easy enough, but the ground is run-down and the view not great. But there is still something to be said about such an old ground standing strong today. Lewis Browning

76. The Den, Millwall
Division: Championship Opened: 1993 Capacity: 19,369 Away allocation: 4,000
Where they sit: North Stand, top tier
Ticket price: £32
Atmosphere: 6/10

Writer’s honest review: It can be pretty hot and cold at The Den – if things aren’t going the home team’s way, it can be a bit nervy, but don’t let that distract you from the genuinely beautiful ground. Easy to get to as well, especially by coach. Lewis Browning

75. Sixfields, Northampton Town
Division: League One Opened: 1994 Capacity: 8,203 Away allocation: 972
Where they sit: Persimmon Homes South Stand
Ticket price: £26
Atmosphere: 4/10
Closest station and distance: Northampton, 1.2 miles
Car park and cost: Sixfields Car Park, £4
Arrests in 2024-25: 13
Google reviews: 4.1/5
Postcode: NN5 5QA
Writer’s honest review: An opinion that is perhaps blighted by it raining on every trip I’ve made there, Sixfields is a strange stadium. On the outskirts of Northampton, it is difficult to get to and is in the shadows of a retail park which means it is a venue lacking character, although a couple of nearby pubs are decent spots for a pre-match tipple. Will Pickworth

74. Brick Community Stadium, Wigan Athletic
Division: League One Opened: 1999 Capacity: 25,133 Away allocation: 5,400
Where they sit: North Stand
Ticket price: £23
Atmosphere: 4/10
Closest station and distance: Wigan Wallgate, 1.3 miles
Car park and cost: On-site, £6
Arrests in 2024-25: 5
Google reviews: 4.3/5
Postcode: WN5 0UZ
Writer’s honest review: In terms of allocation, Wigan Athletic is one of the best for away fans outside the Premier League with around 4,700 tickets on offer with the entire North Stand at the disposal of visitors. The issue with an away day at Wigan is that it’s a pretty soulless experience and the stadium is rarely sold out which makes it something of a damp squib. Wigan North Western and Wigan Wallgate train stations are both around 20 minutes walk to the stadium and while the pies are decent – check out the chicken balti one – at half-time, little around the ground and a half-full stadium makes this a forgettable away day. Nathan Salt

73. Mornflake Stadium, Crewe Alexandra
Division: League Two Opened: 1906 Capacity: 10,109 Away allocation: 1,700
Where they sit: Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Van Stand
Ticket price: £28
Atmosphere: 5/10
Closest station and distance: Crewe, 0.2 miles
Car park and cost: On-site, £3.50
Arrests in 2024-25: 6
Google reviews: 4.1/5
Postcode: CW2 6EB
Writer’s honest review: Given this stadium opened in 1906 it’s not exactly brimming with mod-cons and the away end – situated down the side of the impeccably named Whitby Morrison Ice Cream Van Stand – can often throw up restricted views due to various pillars. Facilities are so-so but as you’d expect from an old-school ground like this one, you can generate some great noise in the end if your team gets on top. Nathan Salt

72. Ewood Park, Blackburn Rovers
Division: Championship Opened: 1882 Capacity: 31,363 Away allocation: 4,000
Where they sit: Bryan Douglas Darwen End in the lower tier
Ticket price: £33
Atmosphere: 6/10
Closest station and distance: Mill Hill, 0.7 miles
Car park and cost: On-site, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 17
Google reviews: 4.2/5
Postcode: BB2 4JF
Writer’s honest review: Clubs with large fanbases can be given up to 7,000 tickets in one of the stands behind the goal, so this can be a raucous away day. While the stadium itself is dated, it is well-connected for fans arriving by car, train or bus. The concourses are narrow, but the kiosks offer a decent range of food and drink, while there are three excellent pubs within walking distance for those keen on a pre-match pint. Nathan Salt

71. Loftus Road, Queens Park Rangers
Division: Championship Opened: 1904 Capacity: 18,193 Allocation: 1,800

70. Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday
Division: Championship Opened: 3,700 Capacity: 34,835 Away allocation: 1,899
Where they sit: Leppings Lane End
Ticket price: £20
Atmosphere: 8/10

Car park and cost: Sheffield College, Hillsborough Campus, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 33
Google reviews: 4.3/5
Postcode: S6 1SW
Writer’s honest review: The location of the ground, on the north side of the city, makes it a bit of a nightmare to get to and away from via public transport. Away fans are usually housed in the top tier of the Leppings Lane End, but can occupy the bottom half too if a large allocation is granted. When Wednesday are flying, you will be hard-pressed to experience a better atmosphere in the Football League. The queues for the bar, however, are notoriously painstaking. Henry Clark

69. bet365 Stadium, Stoke City
Division: Championship Opened: 1997 Capacity: 30,089 Away allocation: 2,800
Where they sit: South East corner
Ticket price: £30

Car park and cost: South Car Park, £5
Arrests in 2024-25: 35
Google reviews: 4.3/5
Postcode: ST4 4EG
Writer’s honest review: In their Premier League heyday, Stoke City was one of the most feared away grounds and although the atmosphere has taken a knock in recent years, it is a pleasant and modern trip to make. The ground being slightly out of town and with limited amenities nearby do take the score down, although the concourse is a good place to generate an atmosphere pre-game. Will Pickworth

68. Broadfield Stadium, Crawley Town
Division: League Two Opened: 1997 Capacity: 5,907 Away allocation: 1,600
Where they sit: North Terrace and a section of the East Stand

Writer’s honest review: Crawley’s ground sometimes gets a bad reputation in terms of its size and modernity, but the away end is a proper old-school terrace and the atmosphere inside the ground can certainly ramp up. It’s relatively easy to reach by public transport and the food and drink prices are more than reasonable. Will Pickworth

67. Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff City
Division: League One Opened: 2009 Capacity: 33,280 Away allocation: 1,800

Writer’s honest review: The leg space is a huge problem here. The walk to the away end is also famous for essentially passing over a number of back gardens – there was plenty of washing hanging when this writer visited. But it has an old-school feel and is good for ‘limbs’ with any last-minute winners. Lewis Browning

65. Swansea.com Stadium, Swansea City

63. Portman Road, Ipswich Town
Division: Championship Opened: 1884 Capacity: 29,813 Away allocation: 2,000

Writer’s honest review: At Portman Road, the away fans are banished to part of the Cobbold Stand, which runs parallel to the sideline, and split across two tiers. It’s the oldest part of the ground, built in the 1970s, and there has been talk of redevelopment. This is a classic away day – a short walk from the town centre, with some allowance for safe standing, and statues of Sir Alf Ramsay, Sir Bobby Robson, and Kevin Beattie outside. Luke Power

Writer’s honest review: More than 4,000 fans can be housed in the John Atyeo stand. It’s a surprisingly high figure given that the stand has a cramped feel to it. You feel as though you are within touching distance of the goal situated in front of you, but the far end feels like a long way away. A fairly standard concourse greets away fans, though the range of pies was particularly good on my visit to the south west. Henry Clark

61. Wham Stadium, Accrington Stanley
Division: League Two Opened: 1968 Capacity: 5,278 Away allocation: 1,800

Arrests in 2024-25: 3
Google reviews: 4.3/5
Postcode: BB5 5BX
Writer’s honest review: On the plus side, away fans can often get a very healthy allocation when going to the Wham Stadium. On the down side, toilet facilities are questionable at best – particularly for female fans; it’s an uncovered away end on the Coppice Terrace so you’re exposed to the elements; and an open end means the noise can often get lost. Big bonus points for having a pub strategically positioned just outside of the away end. Nathan Salt

60. The Hive, Barnet
Division: League Two Opened: 2013 Capacity: 6,500 Away allocation: 1,890
Where they sit: North Stand

Writer’s honest review: A major fault and long-running controversy of Barnet’s stadium is that it is not in Barnet, meaning you don’t really get the usual matchday feeling or atmosphere as you approach the ground. The away end has a great concourse though and it gives you a good vantage point to watch games from. Will Pickworth

59. Pride Park, Derby County
Division: Championship Opened: 1997 Capacity: 33,597 Away allocation: 2,700
Where they sit: Corner between the East and South Stands

Postcode: DE24 8XL
Writer’s honest review: Pride Park boasts one of the highest average attendances in the Championship, so you’re set for an atmospheric away day. The away end isn’t really an end – just a corner tucked between the East and South stands. Opened on an exposed suburban business park in 1997 with three of the stands in a bowl design, it lacks the awe-inspiring brushstrokes of a long footballing history… but at least you’ll be comfortable. Writer’s honest review: This always feels like an arduous journey but when you do make it to Bramall Lane you know you are in for a very good atmosphere, especially if it is a night game. Away fans in league matches are put in the bottom tier of the Bramall Lane Stand behind one of the goals. It’s one of the oldest professional football grounds in the world and so is unsurprisingly popular for fans to tick off each season. There are plenty of food and drinks stands in the concourses and TVs also stationed inside to keep across scores from around the grounds. Parking can be an issue if you’re not early but it’s generally easy enough to get to from the train station with around a 15-minute walk. Consider The Globe and The Beer Engine as two drinking spots en route prior to the match. Nathan Salt

Arrests in 2024-25: 45
Google reviews: 4.6/10
Postcode: L4 0TH
Writer’s honest review: While some may consider it a bucket-list trip, the reality is somewhat different. Anfield is a considerable distance from local train stations and Liverpool Lime Street, the concourses are tightly packed and the away end itself is also rather cramped. Food options can also be limited, especially before kick-off. On the plus side, the Arkles is a great away pub and the atmosphere can be excellent. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: Selhurst Park is one of the trickier grounds to get to – especially for fans of Northern teams – and it is another ground with restricted view seats. Concourses are wider than you might expect for an old stadium, including a handy outdoor area, and you cannot walk to the ground from Thornton Heath without passing a pub or takeaway, so you will not go hungry or thirsty! Writer’s honest review: Turf Moor has a real old-school vibe and there are areas of the away end where the view is hampered, but it is walkable from the train station. The biggest plus is the cricket club on the doorstep of the visiting section, which is popular with travelling fans as it has three bars, a range of hot and cold food, and plenty of seating and space. 53. Eco-Power Stadium, Doncaster Rovers
Division: League One Opened: 2007 Capacity: 15,231 Away allocation: 2,000

Writer’s honest review: Unfortunately a victim to the modern bowl-like design that became the craze, the Eco-Power Stadium is smart and clean but has no distinguishable features. Its position on the outskirts of Doncaster, a lengthy walk from the town centre, also impacts the away-day experience. Will Pickworth

52. Elland Road, Leeds United

Writer’s honest review: Few stadiums in the Premier League offer a better atmosphere than Elland Road. The visiting section is right next to one of the most vocal areas of Leeds fans, although it can be difficult to see the action at the opposite end. While there is a matchday shuttle, the ground is a fair trek from the train station. When arriving, away supporters have a dedicated fan zone serving hot and cold food, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Liam Morgan

51. American Express Stadium, Brighton and Hove Albion

Writer’s honest review: Brighton is a superb city, especially if your team is lucky enough to get a trip to the Amex in the summer months, and the away end being behind the goal guarantees a great view of the action. The pies in the visiting section are also among the best in the league, but the shambolic transport to and from the main train station severely counts against it. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: The away end at the Etihad is split into three, making generating a raucous atmosphere tricky – and the trip up to the very top is not for the faint-hearted. But the stadium is well-connected with local transport and the food and drink facilities outside the ground are up there with the best in the league, while the concourses are spacious. Liam Morgan

Arrests in 2024-25: 15
Google reviews: 4.2/5
Postcode: S71 1ET
Writer’s honest review: Away fans are given the entire North Stand and its acoustics make for a potentially great away day if you team is in form. It’s an excellent view and the allocation is often high compared to other League One grounds where space is at a premium – not an issue at Barnsley. Accessibility to Oakwell is good for those travelling on public transport as it is about a 10-minute walk from the train station. Facilities are adequate but one of the biggest gripes of a trip to Oakwell is that food and drink prices feel excessive compared to other grounds at the level. Nathan Salt

Writer’s honest review: At Prenton Park, away fans are given a full stand behind the goal which gives you the chance to create a good atmosphere and also have a good vantage point. The home supporters generate a good noise and the ground is rooted in its community. Will Pickworth

44. Edgeley Park, Stockport County

Arrests in 2024-25: 9
Google reviews: 4.4/5
Postcode: SK3 9DD
Writer’s honest review: One of the smaller allocations at the level given the size of the stadium. Edgeley Park is convenient to get to and provides a food offering that generates rave reviews from home and away fans. Pillars can obstruct view from the side stand where away fans are housed but it’s a perfectly fine away day experience overall. Not one of the greats but far from the worst, also. Nathan Salt

43. St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Division: Championship Opened: 2001 Capacity: 32,284 Allocation: 3,200

Arrests in 2024-25: 23
Google reviews: 4.4
Postcode: SO14 5FP
Writer’s honest review: St Mary’s has nearly been open for 25 years and the stadium certainly felt like a move into the modern world at the turn of the Millennium – and a colossal upgrade from The Dell. With that comes nice, wide concourses, toilets fit for hordes of people and all of that jazz, but the place does lack a certain soul. It’s not your most raucous away day inside the ground. It’s OK. But a couple roads over in St Mary’s Street, it’s different. You might not associate Southampton with rough and ready, but you should have your wits about you walking down that road if you’re an away fan. Alex McCarthy

Writer’s honest review: Visits to the Hawthorns typically get good reviews. It’s easy to get to, a good size, and steeped in history after first opening in 1900. As a day-tripper you’ll be housed in the side left of the Smethwick Stand behind the goal with plenty of safe standing to sing your lungs out. There’s plenty of passion here at the highest league ground in England – and kudos for its original name, based on the hawthorn bushes that used to occupy the territory. Luke Power

Writer’s honest review: One of the more modern grounds at the level, away fans are given the entire North Stand and its design makes it ideal for the view as well as generating a lively away end. There are TVs in the concourse that allow you to keep up to date with scores elsewhere and there is a wide array of food on offer. An enormous Tesco outside the ground means you can even do a big shop on the way home! Nathan Salt

40. Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth

Writer’s honest review: Another away trip at its best at the start or towards the end of the season, given Bournemouth’s popularity as a seaside town. The visiting section at the Vitality is the smallest in the league but offers a great view from most of the stand – save for the first few rows – and the ground is easily reachable on foot from nearby Pokesdown station. Food inside the stadium is typical football fodder and supporters hoping for a beer or two can enjoy a chilled pint opposite the station. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: It’s always a far better experience as an away fan when you get allocated the entire stand and this is the case here with away fans totally dominating the DM Recruitment Stand, the North Stand of the stadium. This is a hugely popular away end partly because the view is excellent, the facilities are of a good standard, the allocation is high compared to other teams in the league, and the stand is designed in a steep way to make you feel on top of the action. Lots of boxes ticked. Nathan Salt

Writer’s honest review: Away fans get the entire stand behind one of the goals and that makes for a great occasion at a real family-friendly club. There is a fan zone area outside of the away end although service is often slow. Toilets have seen better days and it’s a tricky old place to get to if you’re not driving. But inside the stadium fans can generate plenty of noise and it’s a decent unobstructed view of the entire pitch. Nathan Salt

37. Rodney Parade, Newport County
Division: League Two Opened: 1877 Capacity: 7,850 Away allocation: 600

Postcode: NP19 0UU
Writer’s honest review: A trip to Newport is more about what you do when you are not at the football. Nearby Celtic Manor is a Mecca for golfers, and a decent hotel to boot, albeit a little reminiscent to the one in The Shining. A night out down Cambrian Road may have you seeing twins and phantom bartenders by the time you get back, especially if you head to Mojos for 2-4-1 cocktails and karaoke (no sad songs, as the sign on the DJ booth warns). Rodney Parade itself is compact, with two open ends, and does not offer the greatest viewing experience in the EFL. At least you will be dry at the end of the covered, more modern Bisley Stand. The locals in the west stand opposite can create a decent atmosphere. Mike Keegan

36. Deepdale, Preston North End
Division: Championship Opened: 1878 Capacity: 23,408 Away allocation: 3,000

Writer’s honest review: Deepdale retains a sense of history – its seating bears the faces Sir Tom Finney, Bill Shankly, and Alan Kelly, the former has an iconic statue outside, and it’s a traditional English ground with four distinct stands. Every fan should visit at least once. Moor Park across the street affords the chance for a kickabout if you’re in the mood. The away end, dedicated to Shankly, is quite steep so you get the feeling you’re on top of the action. Expect to make most of the noise – Deepdale isn’t the most boisterous – and come prepared to watch a rainy 0-0 draw. Inside, you’ve got a fairly standard selection of grub, drinks, and toilets. Nothing too fancy. With the walk from the station taking almost 40 minutes through the city centre, you’ve got plenty of pubs and takeaways to pick from. Parking is at a premium on the narrow terraced streets nearby. Luke Power

Writer’s honest review: A brilliant experience as an away fan. There is a fan zone offering en route to the away end that is open to home and away supporters and provides high end, gourmet-style food offerings that are miles better than most fare at football grounds. The away end itself – the Stacey West stand – allows for a good deal of noise and the acoustics overall are sound. Don’t listen to any naysayers, this is one of the best away day experiences in the EFL. Nathan Salt

Writer’s honest review: Although the County Ground is an impressive structure for the fourth tier, it is perhaps showing its age and in need of modernisation. Writer’s honest review: Roomier than most other away ends, both inside the stadium bowl and on the concourse. The Hercules Pub on Holloway Road is good for away fans as most pubs near the ground are for home fans only, while another alternative is to drink in Euston or other parts of central London before taking short tube journey to the ground. The food and drink options are more than respectable, and a walk from any of the nearby stations is adorned with the typical matchday food vans. Liam Morgan

24. Blundell Park, Grimsby Town
Division: League Two Opened: 1899 Capacity: 9,052 Away llocation: 2,000

Car park and cost: Blundell Avenue, free
Arrests in 2024-25: 13
Google reviews: 4.2/5
Postcode: DN35 7PY
Writer’s honest review: Blundell Park is one of the most traditional and old-school grounds in the entire EFL and while the overall allocation isn’t huge, there are so many plus points to this away day. One, you’ll be able to get the best fish and chips of the season here. Two, Grimsby Town actually have a dedicated away fan bar at Blundell Park in the right-hand corner of the away end. Just wrap up warm as that chill from the North Sea is no joke. Nathan Salt

23. Fratton Park, Portsmouth
Division: Championship Opened: 1899 Capacity: 20,899 Away allocation: 1,400
Where they sit: Milton End
Ticket price: £30
Atmosphere: 8/10

Car park and cost: Milton Cross School Car Park, £6
Arrests in 2024-25: 16
Google reviews: 4.5/5
Postcode: PO4 8RA
Writer’s honest review: Fratton Park has one of the most iconic away ends. Really friendly stewards and plenty of space, with the food vans outside the ground often generous with cheap food after full time. The walk up the stairs to the away end if memorable – the only issue is bollards causing a potential restricted view. Lewis Browning

22. Home Park, Plymouth Argyle
Division: League One Opened: 1893 Capacity: 17,900 Away allocation: 1,300
Where they sit: Kawasaki Barn Park End
Ticket price: £28
Atmosphere: 9/10

Car park and cost: Devonport High School for Girls, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 16
Google reviews: 4.5/5
Postcode: PL2 3DQ
Writer’s honest review: Home Park is a memorable outpost housing one of the EFL’s two Devon clubs. Situated in a beautiful part of the country, not far from the seaside, it’s known for its boisterous energy generated by the Green Army. The Barn Park End is all seated and covered. The facilities are good as it was rebuilt in 2001, but the concourse can be a tight squeeze. Families are also invited into the club’s fan zone to take part in a variety of sporting activities, so the kids can blow off steam after a forbidding journey here. Luke Power

21. Hayes Lane, Bromley
Division: League Two Opened: 1938 Capacity: 5,300 Away allocation: 600
Where they sit: East Terrace
Ticket price: £22
Atmosphere: 7/10

Car park and cost: St Mark’s Square, £8
Arrests in 2024-25: 7
Google reviews: 4.5/5
Postcode: BR2 9EF
Writer’s honest review: Hayes Lane is a steady walk up from the train station – which has a popular Wetherspoons directly opposite – but again the side terrace where away fans are housed can be brutal when the weather is not on your side. You get plenty of space but it’s not the steepest so your perspective on the action is far from ideal. The home dugout is in front of the away end so there is a lot of pantomime jibes going back and forth to entertain. For the league, one of the better food and drink offerings. Nathan Salt

20. The Valley, Charlton Athletic
Division: Championship Opened: 1919 Capacity: 27,111 Away allocation: 3,000

Writer’s honest review: A spacious away end with a unique entrance near the road, but then again spacious when you get to the concourse. Best to get food at the stand closer to the arena than the entrance, and plenty of parking and food options outside too. Will Pickworth

19. Old Trafford, Manchester United
Division: Premier League Opened: 1910 Capacity: 74,197 Away allocation: 3,000
Where they sit: South east corner of the stadium in the lower tier of the East Stand
Ticket price: £30

Car park and cost: On-site, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 121
Google reviews: 4.6/5
Postcode: M16 0RA
Writer’s honest review: Old Trafford offers one of the better views from an away end in the Premier League and the acoustics allow supporters to make a significant racket. The stadium is easily accessible from Manchester city centre – fans can use trams or buses – and there are dozens of food outlets on the walk from any of the nearby stations. However, beer-drinkers will be disappointed with the offering on the concourse, which is dated to say the least. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: There is a small separation from home fans which ensures a spicy atmosphere and you also have to cross the traffic of home fans to get into the ground if arriving on a supporters’ coach as they often park on the side road opposite the stadium. Will Pickworth

17. Stamford Bridge, Chelsea
Division: Premier League Opened: 1877 Capacity: 40,341 Away allocation: 3,000
Where they sit: Lower tier of the Shed End
Ticket price: £30
Atmosphere: 6/10

Postcode: SW6 1HS
Writer’s honest review: Fans unlucky enough to have a ticket towards the back of the lower tier will find their view severely restricted by the stand above, and the concourses are far from spacious, but otherwise this is another decent away day. The Courtfield Tavern, opposite Earl’s Court station, is a good choice for visiting fans and there are plenty of food options on the way to the ground. Liam Morgan

16. King Power Stadium, Leicester City

15. Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough
Division: Championship Opened: 1995 Capacity: 34,742 Away allocation: 3,500
Where they sit: Corner nearest the South Stand

Car park and cost: Teeside University, £10
Arrests in 2024-25: 16
Google reviews: 4.6/5

Writer’s honest review: The Riverside might not be much to look at – and is very similar to St Mary’s and other modern bowl stadiums – but it is well worth a visit as an away fan. As well as the usual pies, hotdogs and sausage rolls, supporters can purchase the local delicacy, a parmo, at the ground, which is a must if visiting Middlesbrough. Pints on the concourses are cheap, too, costing an average of £3.60 last season. When inside the stadium bowl, the view from the away end in the corner of the Riverside is superb. Luke Power

14. Brisbane Road, Leyton Orient
Division: League One Opened: 1890 Capacity: 9,271 Away allocation: 1,459

Writer’s honest review: The only London away day in League One this season, Brisbane Road is extremely easy to get to via public transport, meaning you have plenty of time to drink in any surrounding east London pub. The atmosphere is usually decent too and the flats that overlook the pitch add a quirk, although the placement of away fans on the side of the ground rather than behind the goal slightly brings down the experience. Will Pickworth

13. Weston Homes Stadium, Peterborough United
Division: League One Opened: 1913 Capacity: 15,314 Away allocation: 1,800

Writer’s honest review: One of the noisiest away ends in the EFL. The away section at London Road offers brilliant acoustics to make it an away day to remember (provided your team comes out on top). Facilities wise they are much more basic than some of their peers but from my experience, this was one of the great away days for atmosphere. Nathan Salt

12. Boundary Park, Oldham Athletic
Division: League Two Opened: 1904 Capacity: 13,513 Away allocation: 4,000
Where they sit: Chadderton Road End

Writer’s honest review: A welcome return to the EFL for one of the Premier League founder members and a proper ground full of character with four different stands. Away fans are situated in the Chaddy End, which was traditionally for home supporters, behind a goal. If you fancy a pint, the Rifle Range is a decent pre-match haunt with friendly locals where away fans are welcome and is a 10-minute walk. Last season, Oldham introduced food trucks behind the new Joe Royle Stand which are worth a visit – if Filthy Fries and Buffalo Chicken are your thing. If it’s August, wear a coat. If it’s December, wear two. Mike Keegan

Writer’s honest review: Not your usual rough and tumble football experience, a trip to Wetherby Road remains one of my favourite away days. The town is charming, as is the stadium, which creeps up on you amid neatly-packed houses. An away day that is well worth it. Will Pickworth

10. St James’ Park, Newcastle United

Writer’s honest review: Famous for having the highest away end in the country, with fans needed to climb 140 stairs to reach level 7 of St James’ Park. The view is as you would expect from such a vantage point, but the atmosphere is superb. It is also one of the few stadiums located in the city centre, which is a huge positive. Visiting supporters in need of pre-match refreshment should try the Victoria Comet pub, directly opposite the main train station and where away fans tend to gather before matches. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: Speaking of steps, you’ll pack a fair few in on the seemingly never-ending walk from Seven Sisters tube station. When you eventually arrive, the new stadium is first-class. Concourses offer a range of good-quality food and drink, while fans have a perfect view of the action from the corner of the ground. Away fans often tend to eat and drink along the Victoria Line in the hours before games as visiting supporter-friendly pubs nearby are sparse. Liam Morgan

Arrests in 2024-25: 25
Google reviews: 4.3/5
Postcode: B9 4RL
Writer’s honest review: Visiting a historic old stadium like St Andrews is always a treat and this also represents one of the most hostile away days in the 92. As an away fan you are placed in the lower tier of the Gil Merrick Stand behind one of the goals and get an allocation around 2,000. For cup games you can be given the entire lower tier to double that to around 4,000. There is a small separation from home fans which ensures a spicy atmosphere and you also have to cross the traffic of home fans to get into the ground if arriving on a supporters’ coach as they often park on the side road opposite the stadium. The view from the away end is good and there are plenty of food and drink options on the concourse, which you’d expect for a club that was in the Premier League in the not-so-distant past. An away day that causes a ticketing scramble for most clubs once the calendar drops. Nathan Salt

7. City Ground, Nottingham Forest

Writer’s honest review: One of those rare away days where you can’t help but come away wishing that your opponents’ home was your own. The City Ground is a majestic sight as you cross the Trent on the walk from the station, especially for night games. While the concourse is nothing spectacular, the view from the Bridgford Stand is superb – no supporting pillars to get in your way. And it helps that Nottingham is a cracking city for a night out in after too. Ticks every box. Henry Clark

Writer’s honest review: The Stadium of Light saw some empty days when Sunderland were in League One, but fans will flock back now they are in the top flight again. Away fans are high in the sky with a dodgy view but the beer is cheap and it’s one many want to tick off their bucket list. Usually a long way to travel – to Sunderland, and up the thousand stairs to your seats. Lewis Browning

Few teams have enjoyed themselves more at the Stadium of Light in recent years than rivals Newcastle in January 2024, when they won a raucous FA Cup tie 3-0
5. Villa Park, Aston Villa
Division: Premier League Opened: 1897 Capacity: 42,640 Away allocation: 2,900
Where they sit: North east corner of the Doug Ellis Stand, split into two tiers
Ticket price: £30

Car park and cost: King Edward VI Ashton School, £20
Arrests in 2024-25: 71
Google reviews: 4.5/5

Writer’s honest review: A tight concourse gives this a proper football stadium feel. The away end is split into two, but both areas offer decent atmosphere. Plenty of food and drink vans en route to the famous old ground but the Witton Arms – located a stone’s throw from the away end – now being home supporters only makes drinking a little less convenient for visiting supporters. Liam Morgan

Car park and cost: St Andrew’s Road, £5
Arrests in 2024-25: 10
Google reviews: 4.3/5

Writer’s honest review: A brilliant away day, given the vast array of great pubs in Huddersfield town centre. The Accu Stadium itself is just half a mile from the main station and offers superb acoustics for supporters hoping to generate an atmosphere. The view is not ideal from the front of the away stand behind the goal, and the concourses are uncovered, but don’t let that put you off a visit. William Pickworth

3. Valley Parade, Bradford City
Division: League One Opened: 1886 Capacity: 24,840 Away allocation: 1,300

Writer’s honest review: It’s worth visiting the memorial for the Bradford City Stadium fire of 18985 when you visit – a tragic event that saw 56 fans lose their lives. It’s up a hill, with the away entrance at the bottom. Not the best away end in terms of trying to create an atmosphere but a decent enough view at a historical ground. Lewis Browning

Writer’s honest review: Packed into the Jimmy Sirrel Stand, away fans run along the side of the pitch here which is atypical in the EFL when most clubs push you behind one of the goals. There is plenty of space outside of the away end to eat, drink and chat to friends and from experience, this has been one of the noisiest away experiences when your team is on top. Close to the city centre and a great day out. Nathan Salt

Writer’s honest review: Until recently, this would have been unthinkable when Craven Cottage still had a mixed away end, but now it is without doubt near top of the away-day table. Visiting fans have access to numerous pubs, both big and small, and there are no better walks to the stadium, passing through a park – with a very tasty BBQ offering freshly-cooked food – and along the River Thames. The view is also excellent when you do arrive, with spacious areas outside the catering and drinks stands. Liam Morgan

Writer’s honest review: In terms of aesthetics and the facilities, the brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium has to be up there with the very best in the world. It has luxury sofas, a first for English football, for VIPs to watch the game — and the atmosphere will be good given the steep sides. It will be cold in the winter, though, given its waterfront location, and the transport links are terrible. Parking is extremely limited and it is a fair walk from Liverpool Lime Street railway station. Lewis Steele
