The Jonesboro Airport Commission officially broke ground Tuesday (Aug. 12) on a new commercial terminal.
The 13,300-square-foot terminal will feature expanded passenger amenities, food service, and upgraded TSA accommodations. It will cost about $6.3 million to build.
“Jonesboro has proven to be a resilient community, rebuilding even stronger. And the new airport terminal is no exception,” said Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver.
On March 28, 2020, an EF3 tornado destroyed much of the city’s airport infrastructure — including the 10,000-square-foot commercial terminal.
“This would not be possible without the tremendous support of political leaders and the Economic Development Administration, who made this project a reality through a grant partnership,” Copenhaver added. “We are truly grateful for their commitment to our community’s growth.”
The airport received a $5 million in grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce in early 2024 to be used to replace the damaged terminal. The Airport Commission will add $1.3 million to cover the rest of the costs.
