The city of Farmington, in collaboration with Emery Sapp & Sons, Garver, and the Arkansas Department of Transportation, recently completed a $13.6 million project to widen Arkansas Highway 170 between Main Street and Clyde Carnes Road, according to a news release.
The 2-mile project widened the highway from two to three lanes and added sidewalks, curbs and gutters on both sides. The project is expected to enhance safety and accessibility, especially because of its proximity to Farmington High School and residential neighborhoods.
The one-year project was expected to cost more than $15 million, but Emery Sapp & Sons completed it $1.92 million under budget, the release shows.
Construction included 34,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 14,440 tons of asphalt and 11,000 linear feet of storm drainage with 134 structures. Groundbreaking was in May 2024.
“This is a milestone marking not only the end of the project, but the beginning of a safer roadway for the public,” said Billy Wallis, assistant vice president at Emery Sapp & Sons.
