Akwa Ibom State is fully prepared to host the South-South zonal elimination for the National Youth Games this weekend, according to an inspection team from the South-South Zonal Office led by Mr Njoku Peter.
The team toured several sports facilities, including the West Itam Sports Centre, QIC Secondary School, Community Secondary Commercial School, Aka Community Secondary School, Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, and the Uyo Township Stadium, which will host male and female football matches.
Speaking after the inspection, Mr Peter said: “We have toured the venues, and I can confirm that Akwa Ibom is fully ready to host the South-South youth elimination games. All the facilities are in good shape and condition.”
The delegation later paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, who assured them that all logistics before, during, and after the event would be well managed. He praised Governor Umo Eno for prioritising sports development, noting that even before becoming governor, he had a blueprint for sports growth, which led to the creation of a stand-alone sports ministry.
“We have received tremendous support from His Excellency in his determination to make sports a key pillar of the Arise Agenda for the benefit of our youth,” Elder Bassey said.
The inspection team included Mr Njoku Peter (Zonal Coordinator), Mr David Ogunjimi (Assistant Zonal Coordinator), and Mrs Okoi Christiana (Zonal Staff).
With the facilities in excellent condition, Akwa Ibom State is set to deliver a successful event that will showcase the talents of young athletes from across the region.
