Ipswich Town have signed Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom on a season-long loan from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at French side Lille, where he played in the UEFA Champions League. He is expected to bring valuable experience as Kieran McKenna’s team aims for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Akpom has previously played for Middlesbrough, Brighton, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest. If Ipswich win promotion, the deal could become permanent, with the club set to pay Ajax up to £7m.
Speaking to Town TV, Akpom said, “I was really excited when I heard of the interest. Ipswich is a club with big ambitions, and I think my style suits them. My time at Ajax and playing in the Champions League with Lille has made me a better player and person. I’m here to help the team on and off the pitch and bring a winning mentality.”
Akpom is Ipswich’s sixth signing of the summer and could make his debut in Tuesday’s League Cup match against Bromley.
