When Matt Clinkscales was growing up he was fascinated by design and architecture. He liked block letters and loved to draw. When it was time to go to college, however, there was only one problem.

He was set to play running back and wide receiver at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA). The college didn’t offer a four-year degree in architecture, so he had to choose another path. He decided to major in business and management.

During his years as a college football player, he learned how to communicate better, and he enjoyed the structure provided by the team. He said he became more diligent as a person, and playing college sports was more like a job than in high school. The experience led him to become a client advisor for Arvest Wealth Management.

“I help people find financial solutions for retirement as well as estate planning,” he said.

Clinkscales didn’t start off as a client advisor. He had a different role with Arvest, and it allowed him to see how different sectors within the organization provided services for clients. He decided retirement and estate planning was the right fit for him.

One of the unique challenges is that every person who walks into his office has a different story and different goals.

“I think everybody wants to retire as soon as they can,” he said. “I don’t know what we are going to talk about until they come into my office. It’s fun, but it’s also challenging.”

He has about 500 clients and takes between 10 and 15 meetings with clients and potential clients each week. He plans to possibly get more certifications or a master’s degree, but he plans to stay in the same position.

“I’m in a job I love,” he said. “This is what I want to do.”
