Gifted with a strong ability to mentally visualize and imagine spaces, places and details, Katie Brewer is a “great architect, not just a great designer,” according to Ryan Faust, partner at BUF Studio. The difference is “the ability to take an idea and transform it through the design process into a buildable project.”

Brewer combines that with executing projects on budget and on time. She also understands the importance of relationships between the design and construction teams.

Her most recent projects include RYN at Sun Painted Farm, Archie’s Sandwichery at Coler Crossing, Loveless Cocktail Club, Midnight Gallery & Callisto Speakeasy, and YT Mill Bentonville. She also worked on the Children’s Safety Center building and Via Emma city block redevelopment in Springdale.

From Springfield, Mo., Brewer graduated from the University of Arkansas Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design in 2015. She worked for Green Circle Projects, then as project manager at Lamar Johnson Collaborative. In 2020 Brewer joined BUF Studio as architectural designer, then was hospitality and workplace market leader where she established and grew the company’s work in that area. In March, she became director of design. In that design and visioning role, she provides influence and inspiration to team members, helping elevate designs and the solutions BUF provides its clients.

Working on becoming a licensed architect, Brewer appreciates the “very beginning and the end” of a project. “When you first come up with a concept for a client, it’s the dream and vision that’s not real yet. The most rewarding piece is opening night when I’m able to witness people experiencing the space and enjoying it. That’s one of the most fulfilling parts of what I think architecture is.”

Brewer relaxes on her bike and enjoys traveling.
