Lindsay Lohan ruled the 2000s with her blockbuster comedies and romantic movies, to the point of becoming a staple lead in the imagination of a generation growing up on her hilarious movies. In 2025, she returned to the silver screen bearing the gift of a sequel to one of the most pristine teenage comedies, considered a cult classic in pop culture history. Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ hilarious body switch between mother and daughter rewrote teen comedies two decades ago. Its appeal still lingers in Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel, to breathe fresh life into that heritage.

Freakier Friday affirms that some returns are not rewinds but reinventions.

Theatrically released on August 8, 2025, Freakier Friday brings Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis together once again for a wild new body-swap caper after 2003’s hit Disney movie Freaky Friday. This time, with two teens in the mix, a magic malfunction results in a four-way swap of bodies for the women. The movie is currently only in theaters and not streaming on Netflix or any other streaming services. But fans can look for it to hit Disney+ around three months following its theatrical release, which is perhaps around mid-November 2025, per the usual industry streaming window.

Digital purchase and rent should likely start appearing in October, with a special look featurette available on Hulu to pique the interest. Latest Disney movies such as Lilo and Stitch 2025 arrived on premium video-on-demand platforms in two months after hitting the theaters, with its streaming set on Disney+ from Sept 3rd. Disney+ offers several options for subscriptions starting from $9.99 per month. It also hosts the original 2003 film, which is also available on Netflix in some countries. For the millennials who cannot endure the torment of waiting three months for the nostalgic film to enter their households, theatre tickets are available everywhere.

Freakier Friday‘s online streaming window might seem painfully worth the wait with Lindsay Lohan hitting the bullseye with her Netflix comebacks.

Switching up bodies or the plot, Lindsay Lohan has been unstoppable lately

Lindsay Lohan’s grand comeback to cinema, now with the celebratory release of Freakier Friday, has evoked nostalgia, cementing her place as an enduring icon in pop culture. Her colorful return on Netflix in three holiday rom-coms marked a renaissance of her legacy. Netflix films such as Falling for Christmas (2022), in which she plays a hotel heiress who suffers amnesia from a ski accident; Irish Wish (2024), which tracks Lohan’s character through chaos; and most recently, Our Little Secret (2024), which finds Lohan navigating a complex holiday romance reunion, advocate for her return to the throne of rom-coms.

While in Freaky Friday, widowed psychiatrist Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her rebellious teenage daughter, played by Lohan, switch bodies and earn empathy living in each other’s shoes, in the sequel, the chaos quadruples. Directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss, the film also stars Chad Michael Murray, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Manny Jacinto, and more, catering to the younger generation. For the time being, Freakier Friday remains only in theaters, but the streaming countdown has begun. With its all-star cast, cross-generational story, and emotional connection to its origins, the sequel is more than a revival; it is a full-circle moment.
