Jimmy Clay Rogers Sr., of Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 4, 1937, in Beebe, Arkansas, Jim lived a full life marked by faith, love, and laughter. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and LaFaye Rogers, and his brother Bob Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruth Rogers, and his two children, Jimmy Rogers Jr. (Sandra) and Teresa Henry (Jeff), along with his two stepchildren, Kathy Trotter (Perry) and Glenn Barrett. Jim was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren: Branden Henry (Renee), Steven Rogers (Mandy), Amy Farmer (Adam), Amber Latimer (Chris), Amanda Muchmore (Nathan), Taryn Trotter, Dalton Trotter (Chancie), Sarah Kate Trotter, Joseph Barrett, and Jeffery Barrett. He was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jim served his country with honor, and he lived a life of unwavering faith. Always devoted to his church and being a greeter, he found great joy in worship and in sharing the love of Jesus with his family and friends. He often reminded his loved ones that “Jesus is what matters most in life,” a message that he lived by daily.
Jim’s sense of humor was unmatched, and something his grandkids and great grandkids hold as fond memories. He was known for his love of telling jokes and funny sayings, and his hearty laugh was infectious. During his work years at their business, Rogers’ Mobile Homes, he was rarely seen without his favorite overalls, and he never missed the chance to goof around with co-worker Marilyn Watts (he considered her his other daughter). He loved visiting Golden Corral, where he could indulge in his favorite meals while sharing a laugh with their staff friends that felt like family. He also cherished simple pleasures like tinkering on projects, gardening, fishing, and taking trips to the beach with his family in the early years.
Above all, Jim loved his family deeply. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. His love for his wife, Ruth, was a testament to his devotion, and his legacy of faith, love and humor will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him. As a Grandpa, he always told his children to give those kiddos a hug for them. He will be greatly missed, but we know he is sitting with Jesus and his family that preceded him in Heaven.
A funeral service to honor Jim’s life will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, 201 N. 12th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 2:00 PM, followed by Graveside Service at 3:00pm at Woodlawn Cemetery.
