Tragedy struck two young people while on a drive as they collided with a truck, leaving their car completely split in two.

Lucas Eduardo Camargo, 22, and Henrique Ferreira Pinto, 25, were driving on the PR-170 in the state of Gurapuava in Brazil when their pickup crashed into the oncoming lorry, throwing the two out of the vehicle and causing the car to snap in half.

The two men died at the scene at 2.40pm on August 6, while the driver of the truck, a 60-year-old man, had a miracle escape and managed to avoid any injuries. Brazilian State Highway Police confirmed the names of the victims but have yet to release the name of the truck driver. It comes after a man dies after wife runs him over in car park in ‘tragic accident’.

In photos released of the crash site, the back of the pick-up truck can be seen relatively intact, while the ripped-off front was crushed into a wreckage with bits of metal and rubber thrown across the road.

As the Fire Department arrived at the scene, the truck driver claimed that the pickup truck was travelling towards him when one of the car’s wheels hit the curb of the road, causing it to spin out and lose control.

Spinning sideways, and with little time to react, the pickup then struck into the front of the lorry, causing it to split into and kill the pair inside. As the crash involved a fatality, local authorities will begin a full investigation into the events leading up to the crash.

According to Brazilian news G1, Henrique will have her funeral at the Umuprev Funeral Chapel, in Guarapuava, and is to be buried in the Jardim da Paz Municipal Cemetery. An hour later, Lucas Eduardo Camargo, who studied Agricultural Engineering at the Campo Real University Centre, will also have service and be buried in the same cemetery.

The crash comes after news that a dad who was driving while high on cocaine when he crashed, killing his 14-year-old son, has been jailed. Ryan Liam Morgan was a passenger in his dad’s Peugeot van when it left the M6 and crashed into a tree.

His dad, 31-year-old Daniel Burba, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Appearing at Preston Crown Court earlier this week, Burba admitted to driving without a licence and insurance at the time of the crash,

While he was being treated, a paramedic discovered a small bag of cocaine in Burba’s wallet, the court was told. Blood tests revealed the defendant was four times above the legal drug-drive limit.

It also emerged that Burba, from Morecambe, Lancashire, had been told in October 2014 by his doctor to stop taking cocaine after he suffered a seizure which lasted up to four minutes.
