“Bitch, I got good jeans like I’m Sydney,” rapper says in snippet of new track, and one of two TikToks Lizzo posted about the controversial ad campaign
Lizzo poked fun at the whole Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle ad controversy in a snippet for her new song, reportedly titled “I’m Goin’ In Till October.”
In the clip, which Lizzo posted on TikTok, the rapper is seen washing a Porsche while wearing a denim top. On the verse she previewed, Lizzo raps, “No kizzy, he ain’t got no business being with me. Fat ass pretty face with the titties. Bitch, I got good jeans like I’m Sydney.”
In another TikTok video, Lizzo mocked the right-wing response to the controversial ad campaign with a clip of a Fox News pundit saying, “We’re over this woke agenda. We are over the Lizzos, we are over the Dylan Mulvaneys. If this were a 300-pound non-binary person, they would be applauding her.”
That clip then shifts to Lizzo doing her own version of the Trump-loved Sweeney American Eagle ad. “Lizzo’s got good jeans,” the rapper added in the caption, a play on the campaign’s slogan.
Lizzo previously made note of the American Eagle campaign in late July when she posted a photo of herself in an all-denim get-up alongside the caption “My jeans are black.”
American Eagle’s decision to pair Sweeney — who has blonde hair and blue eyes — with a tagline like “has great jeans/genes” has prompted some on the left to accuse the campaign of subtly dog-whistling white supremacy and eugenics in Trump’s America. Meanwhile, the right has celebrated the campaign for allegedly doing just that, with even Trump praising the ad (while misspelling Sweeney’s first name).
Last week, American Eagle issued a statement in response to the controversy. “We continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way,” the company said. “Great jeans look good on everyone.”
