The Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SART) was the first urban electric train to be developed in Pakistan, and it has successfully undergone its first trial run in Lahore, where it marks the beginning of more low-emission urban transportation solutions in Punjab.
Lahore Electric Train Route
Lahore electric train route on the trial line traversed the distance between Ali Town and Muslim Town tracks along Raiwind Road and Canal Road. The pilot run gave authorities the opportunity to examine the performance in real traffic situations.
According to Punjab government sources, the Lahore electric train route is expected to expand in phases, covering major urban corridors within the city. While complete route maps have not yet been published, future connectivity across high-traffic zones is part of the broader infrastructure plan. Similar electric train systems are also planned for Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
Lahore Electric Train Fare Structure
SART fares have not been officially disclosed. The fare model, however, can be kept in mind like the already existing electric bus services in Punjab, which charge Rs. 20 per trip.
The government is keen on marketing the Lahore, electric train fare model as cheap and efficient in terms of daily commuter needs especially in terms of clean mobility policy.
