Nasarawa United have announced the appointment of Mbwas Mangut as their new technical adviser ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Mangut replaces Salisu Yusuf, who left the club at the end of last season. Yusuf has since joined Coton FC in Benin Republic after helping Nasarawa United avoid relegation.

Mangut, aged 47, has signed a two-year contract with the club. He most recently managed Plateau United, finishing seventh in the league before being sacked. He holds a CAF B Licence, one of the top coaching certificates in African football.

Mangut has coached several top Nigerian clubs, including Heartland FC, Wikki Tourists, and Enugu Rangers. As a player, he featured for teams across the world such as Mighty Jets, Sharks (now Rivers United), Deportivo Cali, FC Lens, Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), and Al-Arabi (Qatar). He won titles like the Asian Champions of Champions and the All Arab Cup with Al-Hilal.

Club Chairman Welcomes New Coach

Club Chairman Solomon Babanjah praised Mangut’s experience and said his appointment marks a fresh start for the team.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Mangut, one of the best in the country,” Babanjah said. “His knowledge of the NPFL and his style of play match the club’s vision. We believe he can lead us to greater success.”

The chairman also thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule, Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, and Youth and Sports Commissioner Kwanta Yakubu for their continuous support.

Mangut Promises to Deliver

Coach Mangut expressed gratitude for being chosen.

“I know many coaches wanted this job, so I’m thankful for the opportunity,” he said. “There’s already a good foundation here. With a few new players and strong support from the government and fans, we can achieve great things. I believe we can aim for continental football again.”

State Government Pledges Full Support

Youth and Sports Commissioner, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, said the coach was chosen carefully and promised that the government would fully support him.

“You are free to sign any player, local or international. We’ve arranged good accommodation, transport, and other needs to help you succeed. Your job will be respected, and we won’t interfere with technical matters,” Kwanta stated.

First Test for Coach Mangut

Coach Mangut will lead Nasarawa United in his first official game on Sunday, 24th August 2025, away to Niger Tornadoes, as part of the opening round of the new NPFL season. The team is currently taking part in the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Tournament in Lafia.

His unveiling took place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Lafia and was attended by key stakeholders, including sports officials, club board members, coaches, and supporters.
