The Citi ThankYou Rewards program recently added the American Airlines AAdvantage program as a new transfer partner, and according to TPG’s August 2025 valuations, AAdvantage miles are one of the most valuable airline loyalty currencies.
You can now transfer your Citi ThankYou Rewards points to the American Airlines AAdvantage program at a 1:1 ratio, meaning AAdvantage miles have just become much easier to earn.

We have also seen some premium economy availability from SYD back to the United States in September and October 2025 for 45,000 AAdvantage miles, though dates are more limited.
How to find and book TPG’s deal of the day
We used the time-saving Seats.aero tool to quickly find award availability between LAX and SYD. This tool makes it easy to see which dates are available; however, it unfortunately does not display connecting itineraries for these routings.
Based on our searches, if you search directly on American Airlines’ website, you should be able to add a domestic flight from your home airport to LAX at no extra mileage cost wherever a 45,000-mile price from LAX is available.
Considering the length of the journey from the United States to Australia, this is an impressive way to redeem AAdvantage miles. Note that domestic connections to LAX will be seated in economy class, with premium economy on the long-haul leg to SYD.

Bottom line
It’s not often we see points and miles deals to Australia, given the destination’s year-round popularity. Sydney should still have decent weather in August and September, with maximum temperatures in the low 70s.
If you can travel within the next two months and have either AAdvantage miles or Citi ThankYou Rewards points to redeem, this is a great way to save thousands of dollars flying Down Under.
