Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is close to joining Turkish club Besiktas after they reached an agreement with Leicester City for his transfer.

Ndidi, who has spent the last eight years in England with Leicester, is now set to start a new chapter in Turkey. Reports say Besiktas had their €9.5 million offer accepted by Leicester and have also agreed personal terms with the Nigerian star.

Respected Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba revealed that Besiktas offered Ndidi a three-year contract, with an option for a fourth year, which he has accepted.

The final paperwork is now being completed, and the club hopes to officially unveil Ndidi before the end of the week. He is expected to fly to Istanbul in the coming days on a private jet arranged by the club to complete his medical.

Besiktas are building a new team to challenge for the Turkish Super Lig title, and Ndidi is seen as a key part of that plan. With over 300 games for Leicester and an FA Cup title in 2021, the 28-year-old brings experience and strength to the midfield.

Last season, Ndidi made 30 appearances for the Foxes, scoring once and providing five assists. He joined the club from Belgian side Genk in 2017 and became one of the Premier League’s best ball-winning midfielders.

Ndidi’s move continues a growing trend of Nigerian players joining Turkish clubs this summer. Victor Osimhen moved to Galatasaray, Paul Onuachu returned to Trabzonspor, and Henry Onyekuru signed with Genclerbirligi — showing a strong Nigerian presence in the league.

Meanwhile, Ndidi’s transfer to Besiktas puts an end to rumours linking him with a possible move to Manchester United. The English club were said to be interested in signing him for £9 million due to a clause in his contract after Leicester’s relegation. However, that move will now no longer happen as he heads to Turkey.
