Egypt’s Mariam Younes successfully defended her U-19 girls’ singles title, while Badr Mostafa claimed the U-19 boys’ singles crown, as the 2025 ITTF Africa Youth Championships ended on Sunday, August 3, at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Egypt and Algeria dominated the tournament, winning eight out of the ten gold medals available in the singles and doubles events. Egypt topped the medal table with five golds, Algeria followed with three, while Tunisia and Nigeria secured one gold medal each.

Younes, playing in her final youth tournament, defeated fellow Egyptian Habiba Elbasoumy 4-1 to retain her title in the U-19 girls’ singles. In the boys’ category, left-hander Badr Mostafa stunned defending champion Wassim Essid of Tunisia 4-1, celebrating his victory by jumping on the table after his final winning point.

Tunisia’s only gold came in the U-15 mixed doubles as Amir Essid and Ela Saidi overcame Nigeria’s Tobi Adebakin and Aishat Rabiu 3-1.

Nigeria’s sole gold medal came in the U-19 boys’ doubles, where Matthew Kuti and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai beat Tunisia’s Essid and Mohamed Khaloufi 3-1 in the final.

In the U-15 boys’ doubles, Egypt’s Asser Sameh and Mohammed Abdelhalim defeated Algeria’s Aylan Goudjil and Bilel Zouitene 3-1. But Zouitene had his revenge in the U-15 boys’ singles, edging Sameh 3-2 to take the title.

Algerian sisters Jade and Tania Morice claimed the U-15 girls’ doubles title with a 3-0 win over Egypt’s Farida Thabet and Hanin Elewa. Tania went on to defeat her sister Jade 3-0 in the singles final, adding a second gold to her name.

Egypt also claimed the U-19 girls’ doubles title, as Malak Abdelshakour and Nour Zaki beat Uganda’s Jemimah Nakawala and Judith Nangonzi 3-0. In the U-19 mixed doubles, Egypt’s Mostafa and Younes paired up to beat compatriots Yassin Gaber and Zaki in straight sets (3-0).
