Nigeria’s D’Tigress have been showered with national honors and gifts after their historic fifth consecutive AfroBasket championship win. The team’s official X page announced the incredible news, sharing the recognition from President Bola Tinubu.

‘Following our triumphant run at the AfroBasket Women 2025 tournament, President Bola Tinubu has graciously awarded each player of the D’Tigress team a cash sum of $100,000, a plot of land, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).’
This incredible recognition comes in a landmark year for Nigerian sports. With the Super Falcons having won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year, Nigeria has become the first country to hold the continent’s top titles in both women’s basketball and football at the same time.
