DD'Tigress win

The D’Tigress have done it again! Nigeria’s women’s basketball team just won their fifth straight FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship in the final against Mali.

Even though they got off to a slow start, the team fought back with sheer determination. Amy Okonkwo was on fire, scoring 26 points and leading the charge. The team took over in the second half to secure the win with a final score of 78-64.

The victory extends their winning streak in the tournament to an incredible 29 games, a run that started years back. It also means they’ve secured a spot in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The whole country is celebrating. On X (formerly Twitter), the phrase “Congratulations D’Tigress” is trending everywhere. Even the President of Nigeria joined in, posting:

“You did it, girls! @DtigressNG
Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall.
Well done, Coach Rena and the team.
You have made Nigeria proud. I am expecting you all, along with the trophy.#MissionV – Done & Dusted”

With this win, under the guidance of coach Rena Wakama, the first woman to win the AfroBasket title, the D’Tigress have truly cemented their legacy as Africa’s basketball queens.
