The trending term “solar eclipse today” is going viral on Google and social media. The truth is that there is in fact no solar eclipse taking place in Pakistan or anywhere in the world. Misguided information such as WhatsApp, TikTok, and YouTube, continuously contributes to the trend.

NASA confirmed that on August 2, 2025, there is no solar eclipse. This misunderstanding seems to have caused a bit of confusion that seems to have arisen when the event was confused with the total solar eclipse, which is expected on 2 August 2027 and is commonly known as the Eclipse of the Century because it will last approximately 6 minutes.

Searches for “solar eclipse today in Pakistan” surged after viral posts claimed there would be six minutes of darkness. However, this is inaccurate. According to astronomical data, the next solar eclipses in 2025—on March 29 and September 21–22—will not be visible from Pakistan. The March event will be visible in Europe and the Americas, while the September one will occur over parts of the Southern Hemisphere.

In Pakistan, the 2027 total solar eclipse will be partial. Part of the eclipse on August 2, 2027, will reach its maximum in the cities of Pakistan, such as Karachi, at about 3:57 PM PKT time, and 30 percent of the sun can be seen.

For accurate information on upcoming celestial events and actual solar eclipse dates, Pakistanis are advised to refer to NASA, PMD, and verified platforms. The next significant celestial event visible in Pakistan is a total lunar eclipse on September 7–8, 2025.
