Senior Lawyer Khwaja Shams-ul-Islam was shot and killed in Karachi on the DHA phase 6 area on Aug 1, 2025, when he was attending a funeral with his son, Danial also wounded in the shooting attack.
Sources in the police said that the suspect was already inside the mosque wearing shalwar kameez and wearing a mask on her face. Khwaja Shams-ul-Islam got serious injuries and was transferred to the hospital where he died. It is reported that Danial is under treatment.
This marks the second violent attack on Khwaja Shams-ul-Islam in less than a year. On November 15, 2024, he was assaulted by 15 to 20 armed individuals outside Masjid Noorul Islam in Clifton. He sustained a bullet injury to the hand and ear wounds. The Sindh High Court Bar Association condemned the attack and demanded security for lawyers.
Khwaja Shams-ul-Islam had previously been in the spotlight in 2019 when he was booked in the murder case of his former driver Zulfiqar Ali in DHA Phase 4. However, a JIT report found no sufficient evidence against him, and the case was marked A-Class by the court.
The Karachi police are investigating the August 1 incident. No arrests have been made yet.
