Carlos Alcaraz might not be playing in Toronto this week, but the Spanish tennis star has just reached a huge career milestone.

The 22-year-old has now spent 100 weeks inside the Top 2 of the ATP rankings – a big achievement in men’s tennis. So far, Alcaraz has held the No. 1 spot for 36 weeks and has now been ranked No. 2 for 64 weeks.

Second-Youngest Ever to Reach This Mark

This milestone also makes Alcaraz the second-youngest player in ATP history to spend 100 weeks in the Top 2. The only player to do it at a younger age was Rafael Nadal, another Spanish legend, who reached the same mark at 21.

Even Bjorn Borg, one of the sport’s greats, was slightly older than Alcaraz when he hit 100 weeks.

Alcaraz Still Climbing

Although he’s not playing in Toronto due to minor muscle issues, Alcaraz plans to return in two weeks at the Cincinnati Open, his first tournament since Wimbledon.

Despite taking a short break, Alcaraz is still in a strong position in both the ATP rankings and the Race to Turin (which tracks points earned this season only).

Current ATP Rankings (as of July 28, 2025):

  1. Jannik Sinner – 12,030 points

  2. Carlos Alcaraz – 8,600 points

  3. Alexander Zverev – 6,030 points

There’s a big gap between Alcaraz and the rest of the pack, with Zverev trailing by 2,570 points.

Current Race to Turin Standings:

  1. Carlos Alcaraz – 7,540 points

  2. Jannik Sinner – 6,000 points

  3. Novak Djokovic – 3,380 points

Alcaraz leads the 2025 season by over 1,500 points and is in great form heading into the final stretch of the year.

Eyes on World No. 1

Alcaraz is still in the running to return to the world No. 1 spot this year. Right now, he’s 3,430 points behind Sinner, but there’s a good chance to close that gap at the US Open.

Last year, Sinner won the US Open and earned 2,000 points — but this year, he’ll be defending those points. Alcaraz only needs to defend 50 points, as he lost in the second round in 2024.

This gives Alcaraz a real chance to make a big move in the rankings if he performs well in New York.
