China’s smartphone market saw a 4% year-over-year decline in the second quarter of 2025, following the end of a national subsidy program, according to Canalys. Despite the dip, the market remains on track to outperform the global smartphone industry this year.

Huawei’s Strong HarmonyOS Push

Huawei secured the top position, shipping 12.2 million smartphones and capturing 18% of the market, marking a 15% annual growth. The performance was largely driven by the Nova 14 series running HarmonyOS 5.0, which helped the brand reclaim the throne from competitors.

Vivo and Oppo Right Behind

Vivo ranked second with 11.8 million shipments, holding 17% market share, though it posted a 10% decline from last year. The company relied on staggered releases in the X200, S30, and Y300 series to maintain momentum.

Oppo, which includes OnePlus models, took the third spot with 10.7 million units and 16% market share, experiencing a 5% drop year-over-year.

Xiaomi and Apple Still Top Five

Xiaomi shipped 10.4 million units for 15% of the market, reflecting 3% annual growth, while Apple followed closely with 10.1 million units and 15% market share, achieving 4% growth.

Total smartphone shipments in mainland China reached 67.8 million units, down from 70.5 million in Q2 2024. Canalys found that the end of national subsidies will likely slow market momentum in the second half of 2025, posing challenges for vendors to maintain shipment volumes.
