The other night, I had a cold, and since I am a baby when I’m sick, Freddie[1] came to Brooklyn, I piled blankets on the sofa, and we watched…

…The Firm[2], the 1993 legal thriller starring Tom Cruise and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Have you seen it? First off, I did NOT remember the movie being two hours and 34 minutes! Still, the story flies by — Harvard grad Mitch McDeere lands a job with a prestigious Memphis law firm, which, we soon discover, has dirty secrets. One of the melodramatic lines that Tom Cruise pulls off beautifully: “Hey, Ray, wouldn’t it be funny if I went to Harvard, you went to jail, and we both ended up surrounded by crooks?”
We enjoyed it so much that Freddie suggested we do a Tom Cruise movie marathon this fall (think: Risky Business, Top Gun, The Outsiders…). So, last night, we watched Cocktail[3], the entertaining but truly terrible movie about a bartender trying to make it big. It got a 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.
After watching a slew of Tom Cruise movies, maybe we’ll pick another actor: Olivia Colman? Pedro Pascal? Steve Carell? Queen Latifah? Have you ever chosen an actor (or author) and watched (or read) a bunch of their work?

No clue about the ice situation in Freddie’s glass
Also, a little update: Freddie has been spending more time with the boys[4], which has been wonderful.

And even Georgie approves. xo
P.S. A truly beautiful movie[5], my brother being funny[6], and what movies can you watch over and over[7]?
