Vivo’s X300 series made its debut in China earlier this week, featuring the X300 and X300 Pro, though the Ultra variant is still missing. While we wait for full review units to arrive for testing, the company has already dropped[1] another major announcement: OriginOS 6 is officially going global.
OriginOS was exclusive to China, while international models shipped with the more dated FuntouchOS. This split meant users outside China often missed out on the sleeker, more responsive interface. Vivo[2] is now closing that gap. OriginOS 6 will serve as the unified software experience across both Chinese and global models.
>The first phones to launch with OriginOS 6 pre-installed are the X300 series, but we’ve already had a chance to preview the new OS on an international X200 Pro unit. Compared to FuntouchOS 15, the upgrade feels far more fluid, polished, and consistent.
OriginOS 6 introduces Ultra-Core computing, which manages resources more intelligently to improve performance and battery efficiency. Vivo claims 18.5% faster app cold starts, 10.5% more stable frame rates, and the ability to keep 47 apps running in the background. Memory Fusion further accelerates heavy tasks like loading a 5,000-image gallery by up to 106%.
>The new Dual Rendering Architecture reportedly boosts animation efficiency by 35% and improves frame stability by 11%, making the UI feel smoother than ever. While these are lab figures, the real-world experience is noticeably fluid.
Vivo is focusing heavily on overall smoothness with OriginOS 6, claiming a 41% boost in touch response speed, about 26% faster than its competitors. While the exact testing methods aren’t clear, the company promises that its flagship phones will retain a “smooth-as-new” feel for up to five years. Even the year-old X200 Pro still delivers that same fluid performance, which speaks well for Vivo’s optimization work.
OriginOS 6 finally brings Vivo’s modern design language to international phones that were stuck with the old Funtouch UI. The new version includes a refreshed settings menu, a cleaner notification and control center layout, and a unique system font. Vivo has also redesigned over 2,800 icons, giving the interface a much more polished and modern look.
One of the most noticeable upgrades for former Funtouch users is the new control center. It now features stylish blur effects and smooth transitions, known as Gradient Blur, which make the interface feel more refined. The glowing borders around quick setting buttons may remind some of iOS 26, but it fits well with modern UI design trends that focus on subtle visual polish.
The new Flip Cards feature in OriginOS 6 lets users choose up to four photos from their gallery to display on the lock screen. As you tilt the phone, the images switch smoothly, adding a fun, dynamic touch compared to a single wallpaper. The clock also transitions seamlessly between the Always-on Display and lock screen, making the whole experience look elegant and fluid.
Origin Island is a new addition for users coming from FuntouchOS, though it may look familiar to those who’ve tried recent OriginOS versions. It’s a dynamic black ring around the front camera that shows useful details like the time or music controls. It can also turn into an interactive area, letting you perform quick actions such as copying and pasting content with ease.
OriginOS 6 also adds a range of AI-powered tools to make daily tasks easier. The AI Writing Assistant can help fix grammar summarize text or even spark new ideas when you’re stuck. There’s also AI Captions for real-time speech-to-text and translation, along with a built-in document editor that supports PDF and Word files, enhanced with its own smart features.
Vivo has included the new Circle to Search and scrolling translation features in OriginOS 6, making it easier to find and translate content on-screen. The built-in gallery app has also been improved, with all AI image editing tools now organized in one place for quicker access and smoother editing.
OriginOS 6 introduces the new Vivo Connection Center, a central hub for managing all connectivity options. It lets you link your phone to a PC for screen mirroring, file transfers, and seamless task sharing. You can also transfer data with other Vivo phones or even iPhones using EasyShare, though the first setup takes a few extra steps.
A Private Space feature something missing from both FuntouchOS and OriginOS 5. It creates a secure area on your phone to store personal files and data safely. Users can also run two accounts of the same social media app making it easier to keep work and personal life separate.
Vivo has also improved battery performance with OriginOS 6. According to its internal tests background apps now use about 30mA less power for most users and up to 90mA less for heavy users. The company also claims a 10,20% boost in CPU efficiency which can add around 30 extra minutes of battery life in certain situations.
