In a major relief for consumers, the federal government has approved a reduction in the prices of petroleum products across the country. According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given the green light to the new rates effective from October 16, 2025.
The price of petrol has been reduced by Rs 5.66 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) is down by Rs 1.39 per litre. Additionally, kerosene oil has seen a decrease of Rs 3.26 per litre, providing some relief to the transport and lower-income sectors amid ongoing inflationary pressures.
An official source said,
“The decision aims to pass on the benefits of declining global oil prices to the public.”
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had earlier recommended the price cuts based on global market trends and currency exchange stability. This marks the third consecutive downward revision in petroleum prices, offering some economic respite to transporters and households alike.
