A Dubai court has sentenced an Asian man to one month in prison, fined him the cost of a stolen mobile phone, and ordered his deportation after finding him guilty of theft and attempted theft.
The case involved the theft of a mobile phone worth AED 320 (roughly Rs. 25,000) from an electronics store. Court records show that the man, wearing a face mask to hide his identity, entered the store, spotted an unsecured phone, and discreetly slipped it into his pocket before leaving unnoticed. He later sold the stolen device to a stranger for AED 320.
Roughly a month later, the same man returned to the store, again wearing a mask, apparently intending to steal another phone. However, store staff—alert after the previous theft—noticed his suspicious behavior and detained him before he could act.
During police interrogation, the suspect confessed to the first theft but said he could not identify the person who bought the phone. He was subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the Misdemeanors Court, which found him guilty and handed down a one-month jail term, a fine equal to the phone’s value, and deportation after serving his sentence.
