Punjab’s first dust-free road, the 93-kilometer Multan-Vehari Road, will be completed by June 2026 as part of the provincial government’s infrastructure development plan. The project aims to deliver a cleaner, smoother, and more sustainable travel experience, reflecting the government’s broader vision to modernize Punjab’s road network.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where progress on projects led by the Communication and Works (C&W) Department and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) was reviewed.
During the meeting, the chief minister approved a public-private partnership model for the construction, repair, and rehabilitation of five major roads across Punjab. Under the plan, private institutions will manage project execution to ensure quality and efficiency.
Maryam Nawaz also directed the digitalization of all toll plazas in the province[1], introducing a one-app, one-system model across 38 electronic toll points. The initiative is inspired by the motorway network’s integrated tolling system, designed to improve transparency and convenience for commuters.
Major Savings and Sustainability Measures
Highlighting financial transparency, the chief minister announced that Rs40 billion had been saved through the government’s e-tendering system. She also instructed relevant departments to install solar-powered streetlights on all new roads to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.
The meeting also focused on several beautification projects in Lahore, particularly around Railway Station, Misri Shah, Data Darbar, Ik Moria, and Do Moria Bridges. Plans include installing a mini train and fountain near the Railway Station to enhance the city’s visual appeal and tourism potential.
Officials informed the meeting that rehabilitation work on 54 bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods has been completed.
