Battlefield 6[1] is here and people have, of course, being speculating as to whether this latest entry will be big enough to take on Call of Duty 958 or whatever number we’re on. It’s still too early to really tell, but what we do know is that its bringing in big numbers on Steam.
According to SteamDB, just hours after its launched Battlefield 6 managed to hit a peak concurrent player count of 747,440. That absolutely crushes all the previous Battlefield titles on Steam, and its highly likely that the number will only grow over the weekend.
This also means that Battlefield 3 currently ranks as the 3rd highest FPS on Steam, based upon peak concurrent players. It’s only beaten out by PUBG and Counter Strike 2. It’s kicking the crap out of Call of Duty by about 250,000 players, which is more impressive when you consider Call of Duty is actually a multiplayer hub containing all the games.
As successful as the game seems to be so far, it hasn’t launched without its fair share of problems. Chief among them is the massive queues to get into the game. I’ve seen screenshots of people with tens of thousands of folk ahead of them, right up to people being told they are something like 550,000 in the queue.
Other complains are that the campaign is mediocre at best, which by this point feels less like a criticism and more like a Battlefield tradition. There’s also the usual selection of bugs and glitches, but they don’t seem to be too serious so far.
Right now, Battlefield 6 is holding position at a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam.[2]
