While Florida does have its favorite candy, the Innerbody study shows the Sunshine State is among the most candy-averse states.
With Halloween fast approaching, it’s probably a good idea to start stocking up on candy supplies for trick-or-treaters looking to visit.
In Florida, that means being ready to hand out plenty of Starburst[1]. A new study by the Innerbody[2] health and fitness website ranked the most popular Halloween candy not only in the United States, but for each state.
Starburst is the most popular candy in the Sunshine State — and nationwide. “America is bursting with joy for Starburst candy: it came out on top in an impressive 13 states,” according to the Innerbody study.
The second-most popular candy across America was Sour Patch Kids[3], with eight states saying it’s their favorite. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups[4], Skittles[5] and Sour Punch[6] all tied for third, with four states each preferring those treats.
The Innerbody study analyzed Google search engine trends to determine the lists. They set up a 12-month time frame from September last year until this September for the analysis.
As for a more polarizing candy associated with Fall and Halloween, candy corn wasn’t among the most popular across America. But candy corn is still No. 1 in Kansas, a state associated with corn in general.
The least popular candy was Hot Tamales[7], according to the ranking, though residents in New Mexico ranked the cinnamon treat as their favorite candy brand.
While Floridians might prefer Starburst, the Sunshine State isn’t enamored with candy in general. Florida was in the top 10 among the least candy-loving states, coming in sixth. Washington, D.C., placed No. 1 in that ranking.
The most candy-loving state was Nebraska, followed by Iowa in second and Kentucky in third.
