The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) has announced a new 10-tier grading system, set to begin with the First Annual Examinations 2026 for SSC-I and HSSC-I students. For SSC-II and HSSC-II levels, the format will apply from 2027.
This decision comes after the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) approved the updated grading formula during its 182nd meeting in August 2025. A formal notification issued on October 7 outlined the complete structure, describing it as a move toward a more transparent and fair evaluation system.
Under this revised framework, students earning 96-100% will receive an A++ grade, marked as Extraordinary. Those securing between 91 and 95% will be awarded A+ (Exceptional), while scores from 86 to 90% will fall under grade A (Outstanding).
Similarly, the next categories include B++ (Excellent) for 81-85%, B+ (Very Good) for 76-80%, and B (Good) for 71-75%. Students achieving between 61% and 70% will get a C+ (fairly good), while 51-60% corresponds to a C (above average). Those in the 40-50% range will receive grade D (Emerging). Any score below 40% will be marked as U (Ungraded).
According to the board, students receiving an ungraded mark in any subject must retake that paper, provided they meet the eligibility criteria. The FBISE believes this system will not only make assessments more inclusive but also motivate students to aim for excellence in every category.
