He entered the race in June unopposed. Three candidates have filed since.
Wellington Council member John McGovern’s first full quarter running for the Palm Beach County School Board proved fruitful, resulting in two new endorsers and a haul that brought his total gains to more than $125,000.
McGovern’s campaign says he added about $98,000 since July 1, making him “the clear fundraising leader in the race to succeed retiring[1] School Board member Marcia Andrews.”
He also received nods from the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association[2] and the Palm Beach-Treasure Coast AFL-CIO[3], which represent thousands of teachers and working families in South Florida.
Official campaign finance reports from McGovern and three others[4] running for the School Board’s District 6 seat — nurse practitioner Wildine Pierre, algebra teacher Donald Persson and former school principal Wanda Rosario-Schoenfeld — are due Oct. 10[5].
McGovern, who launched his School Board campaign[6] in June, said in a statement that he is “humbled by the incredible support” his campaign has received across the community.
“Our schools are the backbone of Palm Beach County’s current and future success,” he said.
“With proven leadership and deep roots in this community, I am committed to ensuring every student, every family, has the opportunity to succeed.”
McGovern and Persson are Democrats, according to state records. Pierre has no party affiliation. Rosario-Schoenfeld is a Republican.
District 6 covers a large, inland portion of Palm Beach County,
The School Board race is technically nonpartisan. Its elections will coincide with the 2026 Primary Election on Aug. 18.
