Spotify has announced a collaboration with OpenAI to enhance how users discover music and podcasts. Through ChatGPT, listeners can now find their favorite tracks, create playlists, and receive podcast recommendations with natural conversations.
To get started, users simply begin a chat in ChatGPT and include Spotify in their prompt. The first time they do this, they’ll be asked to connect their Spotify account. Once connected, ChatGPT can search for songs, albums, artists, playlists, or podcast episodes and open them directly in Spotify using contextual information.
How ChatGPT Enhances Spotify Recommendations
Users can now request music or podcasts based on a mood, theme, or topic. ChatGPT then tailors its recommendations, offering playlists or episodes that match the request. For best results, Spotify suggests adding details like genre, mood, or artist name. When it comes to podcasts, users can even mention hosts or guests for more precise suggestions.
While ChatGPT won’t play the audio itself, users can open the recommended tracks or episodes directly in Spotify with one click.
Available for All Users Worldwide
Spotify confirmed that this integration works for both free and premium users. Free-tier listeners can access Spotify’s curated playlists such as Discover Weekly and New Music Friday, while Premium users can generate fully personalized playlists from complex prompts.
The integration is live in English across 145 countries for ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on web and mobile. Spotify noted that this feature is still in its early phase but will continue to improve over time. The company also clarified that connecting Spotify to ChatGPT is optional and that it will not share any audio or video data with OpenAI for training purposes.
