Stakeholders of the IT industry proposed that the government launch another version of Roshan Digital Account (RDA 2.0) aimed at converting unofficial exports into formal remittances received through facilitating the IT companies and freelancers.

The RDA 2.0 scheme will be tailored for freelancers and IT companies and will provide access to beneficiaries through an automated verification system and a representative body. The new scheme will provide all benefits to the account owners, including Dollar-based interest income, retention in the dollar account, and the amount will be remitted back and made encashment for future growth.

The scheme will also provide facilities for holding credit/debit cards and other facilities available in the current RDA scheme to the account owner of RDA 2.0. The proposal was discussed in an exclusive meeting of the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT), which formed a working group.

The meeting was chaired by Shaza Fatima, Federal Minister, Chairman FBR, Governor State Bank of Pakistan, CEO Ignite, CEO PSEB, and CEO PAFLA. The meeting also deliberated on the data collection of IT companies and freelancers and the number of graduates in the country.

Launched in September 2010, Roshan Digital Account (RDA) aims to link overseas Pakistanis digitally to Pakistan’s financial ecosystem, including fund transfer, banking, and investment facilities.

The scheme is offered by 15 banks offering both conventional and Islamic banking services. So far, over 831,963 accounts were registered and attracted over $10.3 billion in funds by the end of June 2025.
