The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that it will no longer charge any fee for the cancellation of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) following a person’s death.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, a pilot project has been launched in three districts of Punjab to enable the registration of deaths through the provincial Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) using a mobile app. This system allows citizens to record births, marriages, divorces, and deaths conveniently, with plans to expand the service nationwide in the coming weeks.

The spokesperson added that NADRA has strengthened data sharing with the provincial CRMS, ensuring better coordination between national and provincial databases. Once a death is registered in the provincial system, the corresponding CNIC can be cancelled directly via the Pak ID app, eliminating the need for manual processing.

Officials said the initiative not only simplifies the CNIC cancellation process but also helps improve data accuracy and minimize the risk of fraudulent registrations. NADRA’s decision to remove the CNIC cancellation fee is part of its broader effort to enhance public convenience and streamline civil registration services across Pakistan.
