The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced a major operational milestone, revealing that it has cleared its longstanding backlog of registration and renewal cases while reducing the license processing time to just four days. The move addresses decades of complaints from medical professionals about delays in essential regulatory services.
According to the council’s statement, extensive reforms and system upgrades have drastically improved efficiency. The new streamlined process allows medical and dental practitioners to obtain their licenses faster than ever before, marking a significant shift toward digital governance in the healthcare sector.
The transformation began in May 2024, when the PM&DC launched a digitization initiative featuring several online portals, including the Registration Portal, Postgraduate Qualification Portal, Experience and Faculty Portal, and the MDCAT Portal. These platforms were designed to simplify applications and improve transparency for users nationwide.
A PM&DC spokesperson confirmed that out of 175,738 cases received in the past year, 173,373 have already been completed and issued. The council has also launched its digital licensing system in Lahore and Karachi to further facilitate doctors and dentists.
With the PM&DC cutting license processing time to four days, the council aims to enhance service delivery and restore confidence among healthcare professionals. Officials said these reforms will help create a faster, more accessible regulatory framework for Pakistan’s medical and dental community.
