OnePlus has started teasing its next major software update, OxygenOS 16, which is expected to arrive soon with deep integration of Google’s Gemini AI. While the company has not confirmed a release date, the update appears to be close to launch, with the first previews already appearing on social media.
Gemini AI Coming to Mind Space
The biggest change in OxygenOS 16 will be the connection between Gemini and OnePlus’s Mind Space, a feature that stores notes, screenshots, and saved content. With this update, Gemini will be able to access a user’s stored data to handle more advanced tasks. For instance, it could organize information, create summaries, or suggest actions based on a person’s saved details.
This integration will allow the AI to process user queries with greater context. For example, a user could ask Gemini to “plan a three-day trip based on photos and restaurant notes,” and the system could generate a complete itinerary. The collaboration marks OnePlus’s effort to make AI features more personalized and functional within its software ecosystem.
More AI Features Coming
Reports suggest OxygenOS 16 will also introduce AI VoiceScribe and an AI Call Assistant to help users transcribe conversations, translate content, and summarize calls in real time. These tools will rely on both on-device and cloud-based processing. Simple tasks are expected to run locally for faster performance, while more demanding functions will use cloud resources.
Privacy remains a central focus. OnePlus is expected to let users control how much of their Mind Space data Gemini can access, with options to disable cloud storage or restrict data usage. This hybrid model aims to balance user privacy with Gemini’s ability to deliver useful responses.
Expected Availability
OxygenOS 16 is based on Android 16, which Google[1] released earlier this year. The update is currently being tested internally on select devices, including the OnePlus[2] 13 and OnePlus 13s, with broader availability expected in the coming months.
If the company’s track record holds, OxygenOS 16 will debut first on OnePlus’s next flagship, likely the OnePlus 15, before rolling out to existing models.
