The US Embassy in Islamabad has announced that its official Twitter/X account will not be updated regularly following a funding lapse in Washington due to the ongoing US government shutdown.

In its statement, the embassy clarified that only urgent safety and security alerts will be shared during this period, while routine announcements, event updates, and diplomatic engagements remain suspended until normal operations are restored.

Despite the suspension of social media activity, the embassy assured that critical consular services, including visa processing, emergency assistance, and urgent communication for US citizens in Pakistan, will continue without disruption.

Government shutdowns in the US occur when Congress fails to pass budget legislation, halting funding for various federal functions. This has affected several overseas missions, including the Islamabad embassy, which has now shifted its communication priorities toward essential alerts only.

The embassy reaffirmed its commitment to resume full updates once appropriations are restored in Washington.

“The suspension of routine updates will not affect the provision of critical consular services,” the embassy stated.
