Bentonville-based HFA Architecture + Engineering has acquired Baltimore-based boutique architecture firm Chesapeake Design Group (CDG), according to a Monday (Aug. 4) news release. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CDG was founded in the Mid-Atlantic and is a family-owned company. It has spent decades providing architectural services and building partnerships.

As of Aug. 1, CDG will operate under the HFA brand, and its employees will join HFA’s existing studios in Bentonville, Boston, Fort Worth, Texas, Springfield, Mo., and Mexico City. CDG has become part of HFA and will cease to operate as CDG. HFA plans to keep CDG’s Baltimore office.

“From our very first conversation, we recognized how well our purpose and culture aligned around leading our client partners with passionate and empowered people,” said Dave Wilgus, CEO of HFA. “Part of our vision is to expand our regional presence while securing vital talent. Bringing CDG into the HFA community achieves both very well.”

The acquisition expands HFA’s “architectural bench and reinforces the firm’s commitment to delivering integrated, multidisciplinary services across the country,” the release noted. The expansion is expected to enhance HFA’s geographic footprint, enabling the firm to undertake new projects and bolster its support for accounts in the restaurant and commercial sectors.

CDG President Arielle Goldman said the transition is “both a natural fit and an exciting new chapter. “In joining HFA, I see an opportunity to affirm and strengthen our commitment to our people and clients, while also expanding our services. CDG has always been more than just a company to me, and with HFA I am confident that we have found a true home, and I’m excited for our future together.”

HFA has 544 employees, including 540 full-time and four part-time.
