Toronto, October 2, 2025 – At Steam Whistle Brewery in downtown Toronto, adidas officially unveiled TRIONDA, the Official Match Ball of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

SportsRation was on the ground at the launch, capturing the excitement of the event. Alongside TRIONDA’s debut, fans and media were treated to a rare exhibition, every adidas FIFA World Cup ball since 1970 displayed together, tracing a 56-year legacy from the original Telstar to today’s TRIONDA.

What “TRIONDA” Means

The name TRIONDA combines Tri (three) and Onda (waves), celebrating:

  • The three host nations — Canada, Mexico, USA.

  • The wave design flowing across the four panels.

Each panel also includes national symbols:

  • A Maple Leaf for Canada

  • An Eagle for Mexico

  • A Star for the USA

The ball is finished with gold detailing, honoring the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Connected Ball Technology

TRIONDA features a new side-mounted Connected Ball Technology sensor for real-time VAR data.

Use this image in the technology section, as it visually breaks down the new sensor system.

TRIONDA introduces an evolved Connected Ball Technology system:

  • A side-mounted IMU chip embedded in one panel, rather than in the center.

  • Real-time ball data sent directly to VAR.

  • Faster decisions on offsides, handballs, and touches.

This innovation ensures smoother officiating and more precise in-game insights.

Design & Performance Details

TRIONDA’s four-panel construction ensures stability, grip, and precision during play.

This image works well here, since it highlights the ball’s construction and counterbalances.

Key performance features include:

  • Four-panel construction with deep seams for flight stability.

  • Debossed detailing & embossed icons that optimize drag and provide better grip.

  • Counterbalances across three panels to support the new sensor placement.

Sam Handy, GM at adidas Football, explained:

“With TRIONDA, every detail has an impact. The embossed textures, layered graphics and bold colours make the ball stand out instantly… It’s the most visually playful FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created.”

Symbolism & Visual Identity

Use this for the cultural/visual story section, because it zooms in on icons, embossing, and gold accents.

  • Host country symbols: Maple Leaf, Eagle, Star.

  • All-over embossing adds texture and performance grip.

  • Golden accents pay tribute to the World Cup trophy.

  • Name origin: Tri (three) + Onda (waves) → symbolising unity, joy, and motion.

Solene Stoermann, Category Director at adidas, noted:

“For the first time, we’ll see the FIFA World Cup travel across three countries, and with that comes a ball worthy of the occasion. TRIONDA is set to be a main character in the biggest show on earth.”
