Democratic Delray Beach Commissioner Rob Long is stacking cash — and supporters — in his Special Election bid for House District 90.
Long’s campaign announced this week that he has now crossed the $110,000 mark in fundraising.
Long also named 14 additional personal and organizational endorsers to his list of supporters, including Bill Reicherter, who placed second[1] this week in the Special Election’s Republican Primary.
The new endorsers include U.S. Reps. Lois Frankel and Jared Moskowitz, Palm Beach County School Board member Karen Brill, Boynton Beach Commissioners Angela Cruz and Yvette Drucker, West Palm Beach Commissioner Christina Lambert, the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association, Equality Florida, LGBTQ+ Democratic Caucus of Palm Beach County, 314 Action, Palm Beach County Democratic Environmental Caucus, and REALTORS of Broward, Palm Beaches and St. Lucie.
Long also earned a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate[2] distinction.
The endorsement from Reicherter is particularly noteworthy, considering his political leaning. In an interview with the South Florida Sun-Sentinel[3] shortly after losing by 6 percentage points Tuesday to Maria Zack, a longtime Georgia lobbyist and noted conspiracy theorist[4], Reicherter urged voters to choose Long over Zack.
“I don’t feel she’s the proper candidate to win that election and serve the people of District 90,” he told the Sun-Sentinel’s Anthony Man.
Long’s new nods join others from every member[5] of the Democratic legislative delegation of Palm Beach County, Associated Industries of Florida[6], SEIU Florida, the Palm Beach County Fraternal Order of Police, Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association, Palm Beach County International Association of Firefighters, Palm Beach County Human Rights Council and former State Attorney Dave Aronberg.
His reported fundraising through Sept. 25, the last date from which his campaign[7] finance[8] data is available, shows he raised $99,200. Notably, fundraising information from his political committee, Long Lasting Progress PC, only lists his gains through June 30. Updated numbers are due later this month.
Long said in a statement that he is “grateful for the widespread support from organizations and leaders.”
“I’m prepared to work across the political spectrum to make sure the people of District 90 are well represented — tackling insurance costs and affordability, strengthening our schools, keeping our communities safe, and protecting our environment,” he said. “I’m ready to get to work for Palm Beach County.”
HD 90[9] is a Democratic-leaning district[10] that spans a coastal portion of Palm Beach County, including Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and part of Highland Beach.
Long, Zack and no-party candidate Karen Yeh are competing for the right to succeed late Democratic Rep. Joe Casello, whose death in July[11] prompted a Special Election.
HD 90[12] is a Democratic-leaning district[13] that spans a coastal portion of Palm Beach County, including Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and part of Highland Beach.
The General Election is on Dec. 9.
