T-Mobile is expanding its satellite-to-cell service across the US, adding support for several popular third-party apps. The Starlink-powered T-Satellite network now works with WhatsApp, Google Maps, X, and AccuWeather, along with T-Mobile’s own T-Life app. Outdoor platforms like AllTrails, CalTopo, and onX are also part of the rollout.

The service is included with most T-Mobile subscriber plans at no extra cost. However, it can also be purchased separately for $10 a month. Eligible devices will automatically connect to satellites when cellular coverage or Wi-Fi is unavailable. T-Mobile says the service will focus on essential app features rather than full data-heavy use.

WhatsApp users can send messages, images, and voice notes while also making voice and video calls, including group calls. On X, users can post text, images, GIFs, and videos. They can also scroll feeds while managing media quality to save data.

T-Satellite already connects to built-in apps on certain iPhones, Pixels, and Samsung devices. Supported services include Google Messages, Find Hub, Apple Music, Fitness, Maps, and Weather, as well as Samsung’s Weather app.

This expansion marks an important milestone. When T-Satellite launched in July, it only supported text messaging and location sharing.
