It is October 2, which means Fortnite Battle Royale is back with its signature Halloween event: the Fortnitemares 2025.
The v37.40 update is now live, introducing a major crossover with the hit Netflix anime, K-Pop Demon Hunters. This year’s event stands out for its extensive range of new content, including a themed game mode, mythic weapons, and a staggering number of new skins.
K-Pop Demon Hunters: From screen to screen
The most notable addition is the deep integration of the K-Pop Demon Hunters intellectual property (IP). The show’s popularity has translated into more than just skins, with new gameplay elements arriving alongside the cosmetic items.
- Demon Rush mode: The classic Horde Rush mode has been rebooted as Demon Rush, featuring waves of demons from the anime. Players can now use new, K-Pop-inspired abilities and can even recruit one of the HUNTR/X trio (Rumi, Mira, and Zoey) to fight alongside them as a computer-controlled ally.
- Mythic items: The event introduces new mythic weapons and items that players can wield in the Battle Royale, Blitz, and Reload modes. These include Rumi’s Empowered Sword, Zoey’s Golden Bubble Shield, Mira’s X-tra Spicy Ramyeon, and the Derpy Teleporter Mask.
New Skin Line-up: All Star Studded
Fortnitemares 2025 delivers a massive cosmetic drop that mixes classic horror with viral pop culture:
- Pop culture icons: Crossovers include the popular American rapper Doja Cat, the Mystery Machine gang from Scooby-Doo, the characters from the sci-fi anime R.E.P.O., and Huggy Wuggy from Poppy Playtime.
- Other notable additions: Black Knight, Marigold, Wolf Girl, Mothman, Butcher Pig, Grim Hound, Eternal Peely, Pumpkin Girl, Demon Joni, Werewolf Lucien, and Witch Helsie.
- Horror legends: True to the Halloween spirit, players can get skins for horror mainstays Ghostface and Jason Voorhees, along with other gruesome characters like Art the Clown and the Grabber from The Black Phone.
- Fortnite originals: A variety of original and reskinned outfits, including a “radioactive-green” Peely, are also available.
Event Roll-out and Player Expectations
The event begins today, and is being deployed in two main stages. Today’s launch is focusing on the K-Pop Demon Hunters[1] content and a second phase expected on October 9.
This staggered approach could ensure server stability following the initial update, a common concern after major Fortnite releases. Epic Games now gets to capture the initial hype fueled by the Netflix sensation of demon hunting, while keeping players engaged with another content drop a week later.
The sheer volume of new content is likely to attract a large number of players, making server performance and gameplay balance the main metrics for success.
