Gujrat city will finally receive its share of Punjab’s electric bus project by December 2025, as officials confirmed the launch timeline under the second phase of the initiative.

The Punjab government has already rolled out the first phase of the service in Gujranwala-Wazirabad, while the second phase will distribute 200 electric buses across nine cities, including Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, and Rajanpur. However, Gujrat along with Sialkot, Hafizabad, and Narowal was initially left out but will now get 28 buses by the end of 2025.

Punjab’s electro bus service aims to modernize public transport with eco-friendly vehicles. The government has allocated Rs. 7.5 billion for charging stations and Rs. 8.5 billion for bus procurement to ensure smooth operations across the province.

For Gujrat, proposed routes include Gujrat to Lalamusa, Jalalpur Jattan, Mungowal, and Daulat Nagar, with plans to expand further. Overall, 206 e-buses will be provided across the Gujranwala and Gujrat regions, with Gujranwala set to receive 88 buses, Sialkot 45, Gujrat 28, Hafizabad 16, Mandi Bahauddin 12, Narowal 7, and Wazirabad 7.

Local commuters and political representatives have been pushing for the service, considering it a crucial step towards affordable, modern, and eco-friendly transport.
