The federal government has announced another hike in petroleum product prices for the next 15 days, raising the cost of petrol and diesel effective immediately. The decision was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 4.07 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs. 268.68. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has gone up by Rs. 4.04 per litre, with the revised price now set at Rs. 276.81 per litre.
This adjustment comes as part of the government’s fortnightly review of petroleum prices, which is influenced by global crude oil market trends and currency fluctuations. Rising international oil prices and exchange rate pressures are being cited as key reasons behind the recent increase.
Experts warn that the latest hike will likely push transport and commodity costs higher, adding to inflationary pressures already faced by the public. Fuel prices have remained a sensitive issue in Pakistan, with frequent revisions directly impacting household budgets and the overall economy.
