The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made it clear that the deadline for filing income tax returns will not be extended beyond midnight tonight. Taxpayers have been urged to submit their returns on time as any delay will result in penalties under the law.

According to the FBR statement, taxpayers can easily file their returns through the newly introduced simplified income tax form. Those who fail to meet the deadline will be considered late filers and face legal consequences. However, taxpayers who clear their due tax payments can apply for an additional 15 days to file.

The FBR also rejected reports of a possible extension as “misleading and baseless.” Officials emphasized that most taxpayers were not affected by recent floods and had sufficient time to comply. They also dismissed claims about slow performance of the IRIS system, confirming that the platform is fully functional.

This announcement comes amid increased pressure on the tax authority to boost documentation and revenue collection. With the government focusing on widening the tax net, FBR’s firm stance highlights the importance of timely compliance for all eligible taxpayers.
