Paul Onuachu has said that his first goal against Karagumruk on Saturday was not the best goal of his career, even though many fans were impressed by it.

Super Falcons s[1]triker Gift Monday has expressed her joy after scoring the fastest hat-trick from kick-off in the history of the United States National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

The Nigerian forward netted three goals in just 36 minutes to help Washington Spirit secure a 4-0 win over Houston Dash on Sunday, a result that confirmed the team’s place in the playoffs for the second year running.

Reacting on social media, Monday wrote:

“A hat trick on Sunday is sweet, but the real Gift and victory is waking up on Monday ready to chase more. Grateful for everything #GM21”

The 22-year-old dedicated her goals to Nigeria as the country celebrates Independence Day on October 1.

“Playing for the Super Falcons is a very big honour for me,” Monday said after the match. “I am always happy to represent the green white green. I am so glad to give Nigeria this gift. Today feels very special.”

Her three goals also made history at Audi Field, becoming the first-ever hat-trick scored at the stadium. Monday, who had not started a game since August 15, thanked her coach and teammates for their support.

“It’s been a while since I scored a hat-trick. It came so fast and I think it is down to hard work and team spirit. I also thank my coach for trusting me and giving me the chance to start today,” she said.

Washington Spirit coach Adrián González praised Monday’s humility and hard work, noting that competition for the striker role had pushed her to raise her game.

Although she was substituted at half-time after picking up a yellow card, Monday’s performance had already sealed her place in NWSL history.

The Spirit will now turn their focus to the Concacaf W Champions Cup against Gotham FC before hosting San Diego Wave in league action on October 5.
